The recovery movement encourages addiction
I'm not afraid of debates either.
However, this is our Mandate in the Newcomers forum:
The Newcomers Forum is a safe and welcoming place for newcomers. Respect is essential. Debates over Recovery Methods are not allowed on the Newcomer's Forum. Posts that violate this rule will be removed without notice. (Support and experience only please.)

Hi Anna,
given that this thread is, in fact, a debate following the OP topic (albeit a generally spirited yet civilised debate, which is what a debate actually is), I for one would feel quite comfortable if you were to simply re-locate it over to the more general 'Alcoholism' forum. Anyone who wants to follow it or take part (and there's clearly a lot - given the nearly 2,000 views) can do so there, without further creating unnecessary 'noise' in Newcomers.
Cheers

Quick recap:
Both Anna and I prefer that we intervene as little as possible.
Nevertheless this is a moderated board and we reserve the right to impose guidelines - and the right to remind folks about them.
Some posts have stretched the rule thin, I think - but so far the discourse has been civil and I thank people for that.
Only one post has been removed now and that was an intended edit by a member.
Some folks seem to get a lot from these kinds of threads.
Things seem civil, discussion is flowing, noones claiming censorship and noones reported or complained about the thread...
I see no reason why it should be moved.
