"A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing
A flowery band to bind us to the earth,
Spite of despondence, of the inhuman dearth
Of noble natures, of the gloomy days,
Of all the unhealthy and o'er-darkened ways
Made for our searching: yes, in spite of all,
Some shape of beauty moves away the pall
From our dark spirits. Such the sun, the moon,
Trees old and young, sprouting a shady boon
For simple sheep; and such are daffodils
With the green world they live in; and clear rills
That for themselves a cooling covert make
'Gainst the hot season; the mid forest brake,
Rich with a sprinkling of fair musk-rose blooms:
And such too is the grandeur of the dooms
We have imagined for the mighty dead;
All lovely tales that we have heard or read:
An endless fountain of immortal drink,
Pouring unto us from the heaven's brink."
John Keats. The Opening Stanzas of his lengthy poem, "Endymion".

I'm O.K.- sort of. I hit my head on the edge of my bureau and ever since then have had bad bouts of dizziness. Called for a doctor's appointment today and was told that his office is closed because of the "Holiday". Didn't know it was a holiday. Have decided not to drive until things get better. Just stay at home and see what ever doctors are needed. Am worried about my son who can't visit us any more from New York City because his drivers' license has been suspended. He won't say why or how long. Hope he didn't get in an accident and hurt someone. He never tells us anything. Worried about that. Going with the flow.

I have indeed considered going to the ER and may do so. Actually, since I hit my head the situation has improved a bit. I do not have any symptoms of a stroke, much less a heart attack. If I go tonight then I will take a taxi since back in the Fall when I was having hernia problems the ambulance drivers were saying that it was unnecessary and that I was a "frequent flyer". If I had an aneurism or whatever they call a hemorrhage in the brain, I'm sure the symptoms would be much more serious. So if I went I would probably get a Catscan or MRI, and then possibly some medication. At the first sign of anything more serious I shall dial 911 (and tell the ambulance drivers to shut up and drive, not diagnose for the doctors).
The bottom line is that if I just stay here in bed until tomorrow I think I'll be O.K. and can check with my primary doctor first thing.
I do so much appreciate your concern and wise suggestions to go to the ER tonight and after dinner (they never feed you over there and I doubt would operate right away) I may very well go by taxi. Will talk to my wife about it.
Will keep in touch with you all and again many thanks.

Thanks so much for your concern, Soberleigh.

Hi Painter. I love reading your posts and always have since I first got here. Sometimes I can tell you are going over my head but never have you come across as preachy. I just have to think about what you say over the course of a few days. That's great stuff. I especially like it when you talk about spirituality and meaning in life.
I'm sorry the mrs isn't wanting to get that checked out. Hope you are having a good day.

It's Presidents Day!
Who knew, right?
I thought only postal workers and banks got the day off, but I guess physicians do as well.
Do you have urgent cares in MA?
That would be a good compromise, I think.
You could go tonight and not get that frequent flier routine. Better yet, you can call in advance and see what their thoughts are about coming in.

Dearest Bill, I've always enjoyed your posts too - and they've helped me so much. I remember finding out your age and being absolutely shocked. That's meant as a compliment.
Yes, we are your friends - and honored to be! I'm so glad you wanted to talk about what's on your mind, and hope you always will. Prayers for you and Mrs. Bill are going up.

I was in the midst of an update and the SoberRecovery website went down. Talked my situation over with my wife and we decided that the ER should wait until morning when our caregiver can drive me over to the ER around 10:30. I'm in bed now and will be all right. They will no doubt give me a CatScan or MRI and I will also ask them to check out the optic nerve as the impact was just above the bridge of my nose or perhaps a little lower. If it were an aneurism of the brain I think it would have been a lot more troublesome before this since the accident happened about five or six days ago. I'm using a walker now instead of a cane around the house and being extra careful not to fall. Falling is the major risk
Which all goes to show that Hilaire Belloc was right when he said, "Always keep a hold of nurse... For fear of finding something worse...!" It also helps if the nurse is attractive.
