A Newcomers Weekender Thread Nov 27
1. Mashed potatoes
2. Green beans/bacon/sherry vin
3. Baby kale/roasted grapes/roasted squash/shaved manchego salad
4. Mango chai bread pudding
Those are my tasks for the day. I did some of it yesterday.
We hung out and watched 'Trainwreck' at my sister's house while the kids all played downstairs. We had a delicious dinner of Detroit coney dogs my other sister brought in.
They all drank alot of wine and beer, and then the guys had whiskey per usual, but no one's behavior changed except the one sister who gets a little more opinionated.
They were opening a bottle of wine, my Dad broke the cork. I got it out easily. My dad was like 'oh yeah, she's an expert.' At first I thought bc I am a drunk but then I realized it was bc I have so many years in the food biz hahahaha. Sensitive much?
It didn't bother me being around the alcohol except it is kind of a downer. I have my extra spicy ginger beer to celebrate with- I love a spicy drink!
I'll be thinking of you all when I have the chai bread pudding, since that's been our flavor around here lately. We are too cool for pumpkin spice lattes
To the newcomer- I'm a newcomer too! I have 179 days today. This thread may seem cliquey at first but it really isn't. When you jump in and say something about yourself that people can respond to, you get a way to go back and forth and before you know it you have all sorts of random things in common.... food is a good one to break the ice with!
Hanging out on this thread really helps me rack up the sober time. And I'm learning how to interact sober again- I isolated for so long and I only had sad stories that justified why I was allowed to keep drinking. I practice here for real life interactions... Which generally scare the crap out of me if they are not work related.
Friendships (the few left) are hard bc I drank everyone away. I'm starting here on the Weekenders thread where it is warm and safe. Please feel welcome, please say hi. Don't think we are speaking in code or anything, most likely someone is referring to something just a few pages back on the thread.
It's amazing how many bad thoughts can just disappear when you hang out here. You're not alone.
xoxo

HA Mesa, you beat me to it - good job. I was ready to post alice's restaurant, been giving clues the past couple weeks
And it was sneaky of you to post that link to 'thanksgiving outfits' just so you could sneak one of yourself in there. It didn't get by my keen eye tho...

Sorry to interrupt all the nice talk about thanksgiving meals, but Ruby mentioned Corn flakes; and as a jealous spoiled sport because I'm not having thanksgiving I thought I'd mention this

Re: Brainiac's stealth Pic of me... In the Video & Editing Biz, we had this saying: 'Film don't lie'
Here I am below from a sotted Boulder CO Halloween Party some Decades ago. I got an early start in Life on the whole 'Dress Up' bit. More mandatory Holiday Viewing here...

A few Years ago, Peter Gabriel 'recreated' the So Album support Tour. 25 Years on. I would have killed to see it, but it was only on the E. Coast of the U.S.. From that Tour, here's a good 'un. All the original Band Members, including the amazing, unchanged Tony Levin of King Crimson, and other Bands, playing a Signature 'Music Man' Bass as I used to have. His is a 5 String Bass. Complete with a tiny Video Camera on the Neck Headstock. I just love the Lighting Rigs he had Folks manipulating on Stage. Visionary Dude...

Ha!! Great fun, everyone.
The Very American-ized green bean casserole is in the oven. The only way my in-laws eat it is the Campbell Soup / Fried Onions on top version. Cornflakes and cheese not allowed.
So later when my feet are bloated from all of the MSG and sodium, I won't be able to walk in those pink platform heels. However, that pic alone may keep me from eating too much. HA!
