I think my big question regards the newly sober. It is hard to imagine being back there with no candy. Would it have been easier to just take the initial pain to be stabilized?

Might have needed a rubber room.
Of course in early sobriety "anything "sweet would help me & my anxiety meds I too put on X number of pounds . I just started low carb 10 months ago , cause for me I was over that hump of my AV constantly after me . Wanted to work on the getting more healthy part of sobriety . One hurdle at a time

I never liked sweets when I was drinking and then started when I got sober. I think it's the yeast the body is also after. I've been making fruit smoothies getting the good sugar and the sugar/carb cravings are almost gone. I don't even like bread.
