I agree with you Carl, drinkers drink. And I'm a drinker. I will get that through my head eventually.

ccam, I know what you mean, and I've been warned by many that if I make the mistake and have a setaback, it will be very serious. Like a year long serious.

777, I did and I don't have words for how I felt. (shakes head in disgust).

AF....clever my friend, clever.

Quite frankly I think this is really the crux of the matter, I know it was for me. Accepting that I cannot, and will not ever be able to drink responsibly was the only possible solution. I WAS a drinker, but if I want to ever have a chance at a good life I cannot ever consider drinking again. Not even one sip. Because I know that my addiction will take me back to that dark place every single time.

I had several cycles of quitting and then returning before I finally figured this out, but each time I returned to drinking things got worse. I don't know that things can really get much worse for you than they did the last time....I hope you aren't willing to find out if they can.

As far as rewarding myself, got my eye on a road bicycle. I've got some guys who do a lot of biking who will let me know what i should purchase. I will put my trust in them as I know nothing. Low impact on my knees, but will allow me to try to get into cardiovascular condition at my own pace.
It is a great set up for the clients. But you don't have to find everyone in the same center to set something like that up for yourself. When you feel ready why don't you find yourself a good personal trainer. Someone who got a 4 year degree in sports medicine or physical education. Someone know knows how the body works and how it repairs itself. There are a lot of personal trainers out there, some very good at motivating their clients and even setting up workouts, but very few great ones. If you are recovering from an injury it is critical you find a great one.

That sounds awesome about the bike. Swimming is also low impact, do you like to swim?

Drinkers drink. Especially if the option is still on the table.

You are 46 days sober. But abstinence isn't the same as recovery. As Scott suggested, add recovery efforts into your therapy regimen.

I'd be working on getting 'I'm a non-drinker' into your head Jeff.

Hi, Jeff,

I hope that you'll talk with your physicians about a consultation with a board-certified addiction medicine physician to address both a plan for weaning you from painkillers and a long-term approach to living in sobriety.

Here's a link to finding one in your area:

I'm thinking I maybe should have chosen my words more carefully, I didn't mean to set off any alarm bells. I have just doing some free thinking about what lies ahead. I'm not scheming on how and when to get that first drunk under my belt when I'm free from my current situation.

I will add this, my frustration has not diminished, it has gotten worse and today was just the icing on the cake. I'm getting back out in the field on Monday come hell or high water. I won't bore anyone with the details but I'm pissed off tonight.
