Good job Gottatry!

I lived in Allentown for a few years... J's cheesesteaks were the best! I know a loose meat cheesesteak is the best!

They have only one place in Maine that makes me sorta kinda a little bit like the real thing.

Philly cheesesteaks... New Jersey bagels... New York pizza... Maine lobster rolls... Maryland crab cakes...

Does anyone out there know what Taylor ham is? Kewpie doll for the winner....

Weasel...do they sell Taylor ham sandwiches at the Jersey shore? I'm having a vague flashback from my halcyon childhood where we spent a week at Ocean City, NJ every summer. Maybe that was something else. I was mainly into ice cream and pizza even back then.

Hint... Taylor ham is uniquely jersey... Maybe the shore though typically not associated to the shore... it does come in a sandwich form...

Hi everyone,

In about two hours I'm going to a bowling night with my coworkers and friends. I'm posting here to remind myself that I'm not going to drink at the bowling alley like I used to. I don't need a beer to enjoy myself. Why is this message so hard for me to believe? It doesn't seem hard.

Anyway, posting on the thread about it makes me feel a little more serious about it, because I know that I now have people keeping me accountable.

Stay sober everyone! I am six days in.

Geez LBrain, sounds intense. Hope all's well there.

Saturday Stuff: Laundry in the morning, grocery store in the afternoon, then a neighborhood walk and some coffee here around 4pm. Donated some clothes to the local shelter earlier as well. Cleaned the stove. Some guys came and fixed my A/C (that's "AirCon" for you Aussies). Caught part of the Germany v. Ghana match and it was a great World Cup game. Broke out my suitcases and will start packing for my month-long trip here piece-by-piece this week. Settling down here and hoping my neighbor puts the skill saw away for the rest of the afternoon...

Weasel, am I possibly in the running for another Kewpie doll? Taylor ham is a Jersey phenomenon, as Charleesavedme said--but I grew up with the same thing, marketed as "Taylor Pork Roll" in the Philadelphia area. It is sold in a 1-lb. burlap package. It is chopped ham/pork all mashed together in a loaf. You cut it to size.

That game was great. Was hoping for a Germany win from US perspective, but the draw helped too. Just need to beat Portugal tomorrow to advance, even a draw will be a very good result.

Yeah - I will definitely be watching that USA v. Portugal match with interest. I was actually pulling for Ghana today because when they came back against mighty Germany it was pretty thrilling. Not a terrible result for the US - but beating Portugal might be a bigger task than we anticipate. However, after seeing what Ghana did against Germany we might just have a shot. A win would be huge for Uncle Sam!

Taylor Ham is simply amazing (although very bad for you). I am trying to eat better and cut it out, but I'm allowing myself to have it once a week still. Maybe twice if I feel like it!

I have seen it sold off and on here in northern VA. I'm making a supermarket run--think I'll look for it! I haven't had it since I was in my 20s!

Taylor Pork Roll is great fried--why not get some and grill it, Non? You don't need to pick one over the other: just enjoy the complete cornucopia of pork flavor!

All the Taylor ham references. I've never seen it in chicago. Regional delicacy.

The party went well. A bunch of little girls. My son played with my nephew. My brother dropped him off. It was fun. I had a good time. One of our activities was painting the garage. Tempera paint and whatever mural type thing the girls wanted to paint. Several of them painted themselves. I had warned some of the moms in advance. My son is now working on it himself. He is bored and I think a little sad. I will join him. One of the moms took my daughter. I will post a pic. Right now it is pouring buckets. Sheeting rain. I will post pics of the mural.

Thanks Olive for the photos. Did you spy a flamingo? I love the lion. Absolutely!

High end spam is what it is.

My mom used to fry it for breakfast - cheaper than bacon. It was good.

BigS - hail damage from a storm 1 month ago. Amazing that no windows were broken. Most other cars weren't that lucky. They're writing it off as a total loss.
Now, getting another car. The part I hate - it took months to chose this one.
