actually more like 70ish year round, and not as much rain as Hawaii. In fact it rained today, first time since May.

Shhh, let's not tell my daughter about the temperature. I think she'd like CA, as I did when I lived there (out in the desert, Hemet).
I especially liked SD, definitely cooler than Hemet and not nearly as massive (among other drawbacks) as LA. Only downside I could find was too many miliatry personnel and the stuff that follows (no offense all you servicemen and veterans but I think you know what I mean). In fact my cousin was stationed there on the Enterprise some years ago.
