Because I am sober, today I am free to: ?
Read a book in bed.
Remember the last couple of hours before bed.
Ride my motorcycle in the evening.
Wake up early and go for a run.
Kiss my daughter goodnight without smelling like a brewery.

I am free to wake up early, run to the window, and love the sunrise!
(Instead of lying in a dark room with a rag on my head, wanting to vomit, canceling all plans, feeling certain my case was hopeless, and wishing I would just die.)

I'm going to post this today because I'll be on the road tomorrow. I'm heading out of town to get a puppy. My last dog passed about 4 years ago. I didn't get another one because I knew I wasn't ready to do right by it

I was free to take my little grandson for a spin on his little bike, we practiced hopping on one foot. Also practiced putting on gloves and getting just one finger into each hole in the glove.
3 weeks ago I would have stopped at the pub on the way home. Not today!

What a great thread. Because I am sober I'm free to enjoy watching my little ones (niece and nephew) experience Christmas! I'm free to enjoy the day not sick in bed. I'm free to choose to feel great about myself today, not have regrets and pain and disappointment in myself and despair dictated by the effects of binge drinking.
Because I'm sober, I'm free to: stumble, mis-speak, laugh hard, get weepy, state my opinion, etc.
Was always super cautious or self-conscious while drinking--God forbid someone might think I was "buzzed" or "drunk."
So nice to be able to attribute my actions to being HUMAN!

This is my 4th sober Christmas and because I am free I was able to buy me an expensive pair of Nike high top basketball tennies. They'll probably wind up being work shoes with paint and junk all over them, C'est la vie. Merry Christmas everyone.

Go wherever I choose, whenever I choose. The bottle used to chain me to the house after work. I remember thinking how weird it was to be driving at night after getting sober because I usually was passed out by then. The world is truly my oyster now. Freedom is priceless!
