I don't know what kippers are. Baccalà is salted cod sold by the slab.

A kipper is a herring, salted & cold smoked. Very popular in the UK and Scandinavia. (I'm Swedish by birth and any kind of herring, especially matjes herring if anyone has heard of it, is one of my favorites, especially during the Xmas holidays.) Has anyone heard of the a "birds nest" appetizer? (Scandinavian)

Making hard candy today

I think I'm gonna try my hand at making ribbon candy. I have enough little pyrex bowls to make 4 colors.... I just need to find something to extrude the syrup with.

After 3 today I'll be alone until Sunday. I'd much rather fix a big feast for everyone, but they all have their families to go to. Perhaps I'll spend the time eating stuff no one else will eat! Mmm, caviar... anchovies... really stinky cheese... :-D

We're having some of that seafood sausage I made last week, and probably glazed carrots since I have a bunch on hand.
Goat, maybe this is a good time to get some KitchenAid attachments and make some sausage! Word of advice -- if you are grinding your own meat, use the largest hole grinder. Otherwise it kind of turns out like mush.

Haha, VC, I had to make myself stop and eat a ham sandwich just so I could say I had eaten more than just cookies and candy today

And you are right, Asta! I think I will make the trek into town tomorrow and see about those attachments. Surely, Laverne, Sears will be open tomorrow.

Hehe, before I dropped the kids off at their mom's house, my 8 year old asked what the spinning thing on the front of the mixer was for. I said "it's like the PTO on the tractor"... that was enough explanation for him! I'm not really a country boy but it looks like my kids are becoming so
