New Year Challenge Pt 6
It is a beautiful city Hodd, lots of roman history here. Visit a city called Sète on the south coast today, Mediterranean sea swim beckons. Temperatures are a little above normal 21c for the start of April ain't that bad at all. Its times like this that this sober way of life proves itself to be the right way.
Walked Sète yesterday, got that swim in the Mediterranean only cold this time of year instead of freezing at home and we enjoyed the restaurants and being all touristy.
Met a friend and her partner for dinner last night and we stayed out until 11pm. I watched with interest the way some people in the restaurant/wine bar acted and spoke after a few glasses of wine and had the thought that this was me before. I spoke some complete rubbish I'd imagine. Then i remembered how late it was and i felt i couldn't wait for my bed. A good night otherwise but 11pm is too late for me these days.

Home again in Ireland after a long day travelling. Tired now so i will sleep well tonight. Nimes was lovely and it was great to see my daughter. Heartbroken leaving her there but it wont be for long.

Denim originated as a contraction of the French phrase serge de Nîmes('serge from Nîmes') [/QUOTE]
Heard that alright 🙂.
I find cant go to a place unless i do the research of the area first. I already know the route from the ferry in north Spain next July😅 , google maps is so handy. I cant be one of these we will sort it out when we get there people.
Yesterday i think the yacht wasnt secured properly. Road was closed until the tide came back in.

Wow, it certainly doesn’t look like French architecture, AL 👍
In 2011 and 2012, I ended up going to an area just south of Paris every couple of weeks with work. It was tiring but all paid for plus it was a very interesting engineering project the likes of which I’ll probably not be involved in again - at the time I didn’t appreciate that of course. So that was the last time I set foot in France. Wow! I’d find it slightly daunting now to visit anywhere off the beaten track there. My French is like most Brit’s (non-existent) and I know the French really don’t like to speak English. You’re lucky, AL, to visit with a French speaker 👍

We are so bad here too as far as language's go, Irish of course is compulsory but the other main European language's weren't thought until secondary school, that's changed now though. My kids are so lucky fluent in 3 language's all thought to them when small and they didn't know any different.
AL, I love all your photos and stories about your travels. How wonderful to be able to spend some time with your daughter. Isn't it incredible how easily children can learn languages when they are taught at a young age.

^ It took me six years to learn German and that was having one-to-one lessons, living in Germany and working in an office with only Germans who obviously spoke German.
I think for me to learn a language like French whilst living in the UK would take me around 400 years!
And I thought I was proud of myself for learning German, but I went back for a week last year, and unusually many Germans responded to me in English! That never happened when I lived there. I’ve lost a lot of what I learned!

It certainly is Anna. I get that proud feeling inside when i hear them speaking French or Irish.
Amazing how as kids they would switch from speaking Irish to English when they came out of the school gate, but being immersed in the language is the best way to learn it (says the fella with so little) 😅

Comes back pretty fast when you dont have a choice Hodd😉 when the father in law dosent speak any English the choices are either speaking some Frenglish or nothing, we can get by and thats the maIn thing.
Usual weekend of a swim first thing this morning and a rugby match at lunchtime 🤞for the win against a team that beat us earlier in the season. It takes up the day nicely.
