New Year Challenge Part 3
The lottery - I wish you luck. I would just walk away from everything and start over. Somewhere warm where the weather and rising oceans wouldn't be a problem. It's a nice dream. I guess I have to buy a ticket for it to happen.
Tursiops, I love the crows. They are fascinating! Cheeky.

Its easy to feel unlucky when really i am. Great family, a roof over my head and as mamy my wife's grandmother when she was alive would always say you don't know hunger so you are lucky.
A lovely tortoiseshell butterfly landed on my arm today while i was in the stores, much nicer than the previous morning, i hope it will make it through this cold spell.

Sweet butterfly!
I often wonder how the butterflies and little birds make it through the storms. We've had weeks and weeks of rain here. Whenever the sun comes out for a little while, the birds are out in full force. Scrambling to feed and warm up, I imagine.

I couldn't imagine Tursiops, i look at the Heron's nests daily and don't know how they stay up there.
The wind was howling last night great sounds as i walked through some narrow roads with trees on both sides. Then a boat arriving into the harbour it must have been some stomach churning trip in from the Atlantic 🤢.
All good today but super cold.

I saw the eagles soaring over the nest yesterday: no eggs yet.

My grandmother was also called Mamie by all of us (pronounced like same-me.) I feel like she just talked to me. Thanks for that and for the flutter-by which is what I called them as a kid. It made more sense to me. They flutter by - they aren't flying butter!!
Lovely.

Lovely.
Looks like the Loch Ness monsters head in the distance but its not. I was able to discover on my kayak during last summer that it was a 100mm ducting pipe sealed with bolts that the cormorants use as a perch from time to time. I was a bit dissapointed it was nothing more exciting but i was always curious to know.
The hedgerows were interesting this morning lots of floral treats to see and many burrows being renovated and new ones being made. The Ocean was covered in fog so not much of a photo opportunity. Still inland gave me plenty to see.
They're a good few biminiblue, i think its a fox as they are big, the rabbits burrows and too small and the badger set is much bigger, there are rabbit burrows a bit further and were much smaller. That particular one went in two direction. Nice to see.
Great photos as always Al! The flower is particularly spectacular!
Turs - haha my mum always claimed they never found Nessie as she was really a he and migrated to Australia 😂 (meaning my father). Dad never would go in the water so I didn't put much credence into her claims.....however....perhaps it was really camoflauge incase he convert into his real form 😜.
Bim - 😂 I see those "eyes" also.

Sorry you're stuck inside, AL! You're right, it continues to pour here, but actually I'm quite happy about it. We've had such terrible drought for years and years now. There have of course been some floods and landslides/rockslides, and I feel for the people impacted. But California is a big state ... most areas are doing just fine with the rain. Of course, when spring comes and the massive snowmelt from the Sierras starts ... there may be a lot more flooding in some areas.
Its stopped for now and Jupiter is out shining bright in the night sky. Tursiops i remember my brother talking about a time there was heavy winter rains back in the 90s. He worked at Bekins furniture removal and he told us how they would go to houses on emergency basis and when they'd arrive the house would be after sliding of the foundation there was so much rain. Scary times. Hopefully there will be no more damage done over there. Like you said its badly needed just not in one go.
It was cold Tursiops with those clear skies. Completely different today flood warnings. The Heron should put a roof of some kind over its nest, i don't know how they stay up. They seem to use last years nest if its still there and top them up, they are huge.
there are a few newer ones further down the road, they do have a lovely view of the river.
