Class of May 2020 part 17
Class of May 2020 part 17
I'm not sleeping, not eating. I've never been this depressed. Being alone over the holidays is probably the cause. I don't have the money to drink so I will be sober but I really would love to numb myself. I can't believe I actually have to go to a food bank to eat since I drank away my money already this month. Eating canned food on Christmas is going to be brutal.
You’re about a week off of your taper WL. The depression is likely still a symptom of the alcohol.
Go easy. Treat yourself nicely.
Each day gets a bit better.
I’m right around 22 days, and still seeing improvements daily.
My guts are just getting calm these last couple of days.
I’m intigued that you live in some of the most valuable realty in the country. I’m not a city guy. I would find it a cold, hard, place to struggle in.
You know you could live outside of GTA for a lot cheaper? I wonder if a small city would feel more friendly. I have no idea, really, I have never been east of Winnipeg.
What would life be like in cottage country? Orillia?
The nice thing where I live is that neighbours help out a bit. We snowblow for each other. Whoever gets out there first usually will run the snowblower down neighbouring sidewalks. The old-timer next to me is a welder. I help him lift/carry items (his canoe, a picnic table that he built, etc.) He has done a bit of welding for me. You offer what you can. It doesn’t take any particular skills.
I helped the lady next door to clear a fallen tree. She has a riding mower and will sometimes cut our front yard while she’s out there.
I’m not sure if you could offer a hand within your building or floor. Are people more guarded in the metropolis?
Have a good day all.

You are right TC. Coming off a 2 week bender is why I feel so depressed along with another ****** Christmas alone and my father slowly dying. I don't think it's clinical depression but rather due to the circumstances.
Take care WL. Hopefully you can get a few better meals for the holiday and things get better.
As a kid, Toronto was always an amazing place to visit for me. I grew up in the burbs of Buffalo and in the 80s Buffalo was (and honestly still is) a pretty run down city. Toronto was much closer than NYC, amazingly clean, and had a lot of different cultures and foods that I had never encountered. The underground shopping centers that were connected to the subway seemed unreal. Back then the US didn't have as much trade with China, so even seeing things that were made in China was novel as silly as that sounds. I haven't been to the Toronto Zoo since I was a teen and would love to go back there. It's really more of a preserve than a Zoo, and spread out over many acres.
I'm working except for a couple days off this week and next. Enjoy your holidays guys!

I got good news that my best friend from childhood is still making the trip to Toronto from London. We will be hosted for a night or two by our other childhood friend. We've known each other since we were babies so they are like brothers to me. Coincidentally, the last time I had dinner with anyone I know was these two friends and that was May 2019. They are aware of my addiction issues so it's not party time. They are married/kids so won't be like 20 years ago when we would go on drink and drug binges.
Returned all the empty cans from my 2 week bender. Over 300 empty cans. I don't remember much but looking at my banking statement, I often went to the liquor store twice. Once in the morning and then again in the evening to replenish my supply. I was drinking around the clock so the whole 2 weeks is a complete blur. The liquor store takes less than 10 minutes to walk to so I probably made several last minute dashes before closing time that I have no recollection of.
