So the AV is now prodding at me about a future date. I just found out that my partner has booked a 4 night holiday in a few weeks at a very special place in a world heritage area that is meant to be absolutely amazing, for our anniversary. But we have now realised that it has alcohol on arrival and alcohol included with dinner every night, and a minibar in the room. He has spoken to them and asked if they could switch the alcohol for non-alcoholic drinks and they said no sorry it’s a package deal, it all comes included, it’s up to you if you drink it or not. Hmmm. Why can’t they just switch it? I don’t think that’s fair. He’s already paid a hefty deposit so we’re going. But I’m a bit concerned about it. I don’t know that I will be strong enough to resist that kind of temptation

Willow honey, I would call them again, and ask for the manager. There is NO reason they can't remove the alcohol and mini-bar, and switch the dinner drink menu.
I think this is going to take the second phone call to get the result you want. I do think you can do it though. Really.

Thanks Suze ❤️ , I will try. I don’t know exactly what my partner said to them, but I will find out the details when I speak to him again (he’s working away at the moment) and see what I can do. It was actually meant to be a surprise for me, but the cat escaped out of the bag, and we talked about it yesterday, but I still don’t know exactly where it is. He wants to keep it at least partly a surprise, so I may not get to talk to them until I arrive, but I am much better off prewarned than just being taken completely unawares by unexpected bubbles handed to me on arrival. I’ll talk to my partner again about it, we only touched briefly on it when we spoke yesterday.

I think safety trumps surprise. I would call them love. It doesn't matter what your partner said to them. It matters what YOU say.
I cannot imagine in my wildest dreams that they would ignore me if I told them I am an alcoholic, and they are putting me at risk by having alcohol in my room.
I would be that blunt. And then I would be free to look forward to the holiday.

thanks TC, yes a sober holiday together will be good!
Because previously it’s been me struggling to stay sober while he drank. But now he’s on the sober bus too, so hopefully that will make it so much easier…

I hope it’s a nice very holiday Willow.
It might be quite nice being your genuine selves with each other and being able to support each other.
Nature, and such, are ten times better when experienced sober, I think.

Things We Can Learn From a Dog
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.
Let others know when they've invaded your territory .
Take naps and stretch before rising.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
