I was reading SR last night and found the AVRT Explained (long) post and thread. I knew enough about it already to know I wanted to learn more. It was a fascinating read. I was already familiar with the SMART and SOS tools and while I have got some benefit from them in the past they are both IMO a little cumbersome, just a bit too complicated to easily work through.

I'm still watching the daily This Naked Mind videos and find I am doing very well with that, better than with anything I've ever tried before. I haven't had any urges to drink in about a week, which is really nice. Ultimately, I think these methodologies are all versions or implementations of CBT, which I am very comfortable with.

It's great having so many options to try out, and mix and match. Whatever works, well it just works

OK, time to go do something useful, like fix my broken kitchen window latch. Happy Tuesday everyone!

Congrats on day 10! I was still having the occasional craving at that point, but they were easy to get past. I kept thinking something was wrong, it was too easy and I needed to be careful not to get too comfortable. I'm still working on staying sober, but also starting to relax more. Let's hope it stays like this for both of us! All the best Red.

Colin congrats on 3 weeks keep looking for those tools!

Red, good going on getting back into double figures, I must admit whenever I started drinking again after a period sober, I felt more 'myself' once I restarted my recovery. I think we all know that drinking is not the 'we' we really are and the more time we spend sober, the more we realise that.

Great going Free

I’m at 101 days, didn’t think I’d make it this far and feeling pretty good! I’m looking forward to getting thru the New Years, it will be my first since adulthood that I went through the holiday season without drinking. Never in a million years did I imagine that happening. Thanks for all the support!

I wanted to join in as an undie, I am such an undie that I just pulled myself out of the diaper bag.

I have been reading this thread for awhile and there is so much helpful information that you are sharing to help the undies, I want to learn more. What I read is giving me some new ideas to process and that I want to make happen for me. I have been making attempts at quitting since 2008, that is a long time to be aware of how much drinking has been hurting me. Also I have been a drinker for way over 40 years, longest I have gone without drinking was two days short of 90 days and that was quite awhile ago. A month or six weeks here or there, and that was a long time ago also. Now it is just a few days, a week, one day, just that vicious cycle now.

I am ending up my day 2 sober, I will walk out of this year as a sober person and start next year as a sober person and I want to graduate out of the undies and in to the overs.

I am going in for my first doctors visit in years, next week, I am going to be totally honest there, I could use their help also.

day 12

hi TackleTheFear - hope your acute phase is not too hard - take care if you were a heavy drinker

I've got a mild cold - low fever, headache, sore throat - so I'm mostly bedridden watching movies - 2021 was not a good year for movies, but there is a great series though - Love, Death & Robots (a series of arty shorts - amazing)

anyway - well done if you did another day :-)
