beginning to think bicycling isn't a good idea. was a beautiful warm day today, so I went on a group ride with my bike shop. About 16 miles in I hit a patch of mud and lost control of the bike, crashed and now have a broken collarbone.
The doctors don't think Ill need surgery,, but I'll have to take some time off work and my trip to Reno for the bowling tournament is now cancelled.

I agree with Peej, that totally sucks. Would you still go to Reno to offer support? Seems a shame to miss this chance to step back into your - and your brother's - old world and make peace with it.
Well, it's been a few days since the crash and the pain is subsiding just a bit, if I move the wrong way it reminds me.
There is no provision at work for light duty since it didn't happen on the job so, it looks like I'm home until early March.
I go back to the orthopedist in 2 weeks and we will make a decision whether
I need surgery or not. the original doctor said he was 90% sure I wouldn't need it, but, if I do, waiting wont cause any difficulties.
Things are probably more difficult than when I fractured my wrists last year, putting a shirt on was a 20 minute ordeal!
Sleeping when my body lets me, usually for no more than 2 hours at a time before I move and feel it.
painkillers did nothing so I stopped taking them on Monday, just Tylenol and vitamins.
Going to have to venture out of the house tomorrow for groceries, that should be fun!
Everything I've read says I should try to do as much of my normal routine as possible, without using that arm, of course.
The group I've been riding with has been keeping in contact with me, encouraging me not to give up riding but to learn from my mistake. I was going too fast on a curvy stretch that I didn't know well, and wasn't watching far enough ahead to pick a line and look for hazards, trail was concrete and wet, So once I'm healed I will ride with them again, but I will be lagging way behind the group., they can wait for me.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Oh boy, I'm sorry Bud! Well, the pups will be glad to have you home with them for a while. Have you looked into having groceries delivered to you until it gets easier for you? Most of my friends have them delivered now - it's so easy to order online. You might have a little PTSD for a while. I tripped while running a few months ago and landed on my chin. It was horrible and I needed stitches - it took me several weeks to feel confident running again but I'm over it now. I wish you a speedy recovery and take it easy getting back into riding.
