4:55am in Alberta, another 24 for me please, and thanks...

"Today is going to be a darn good day not to drink!"

Congrats on 1 year Willow! And to everyone else celebrating a milestone!

Then, hooray, I really woke up and discovered that drinking was a nightmare not my present reality! Thankful!
Oh, awesome post....I could feel that as if I was there....and eeeeewwwww.......yes, they are AWFUL those dreams.

But.....but I kind of love them. Cos of the last part. We get to wake up and find out that it didn't happen, we are sober. Yet with almost a brand-new experience/memory of what it's like when we are not sober....like a horror movie being played out in our dreams....

I feel like my sub-conscious is being my very best friend when this happens.....and I am very grateful. I thank myself for the HORRIBLE reminder, and happily go about my sober life, with extra glee.

[QUOTE=Neoo;7183937]24 more please

I’m going to join the Navy purely out of spite..

I’m longing to become a Petty Officer [/QUOTE

Willow's one year sober and Neoo's telling jokes again??? Best. Day. Ever. Talking of jokes, this is a conversation I had yesterday with my 7 year old...
'Mummy, mummy!'
'Yes?'
'Do you know ant man is in Avengers End Game? He's got a small role!'
'Eh? Of course I know he's in it. I watched it with you. And he doesn't have a small role, he's in it a lot.'
'No, mummy. It's a joke!'
'Eh? I don't get it.'
'He has a small role because he's so small'.
'Who?'
'Ant man'
'Oh I see. Tell me it again'.
'Mummy, do you know Ant man's in Avengers End Game? He's got a small role.'
'Ha ha! That's brilliant. What a great joke. Have you told the others that joke.'
'Yeah. They got it first time. You're the only one I had to explain it to'. Oh dear.

Congratulations Willow! You certainly haven't had an easy first year of sobriety but you've stayed strong and been a constant inspiration. So happy for you. 24 more for me please xxxx

She grew up in a very functional family and somehow ended up with my Dad whose middle name was "dysfunctional". He put her and us kids through so much but finally got it right thanks to AA when he was 58 years old. He became a real leader in the organization and several of the friends he met there came to his funeral when he passed with dementia (and liver cancer) almost twenty years sober. I followed in my mother's footsteps abstaining from alcohol entirely until I was 40. Now, almost 20 years later I am still a functioning dysfunctional drinker, but I am looking so forward to replacing alcohol with more worthwhile activities. One day at a time.
Katlin, I began my alcoholic drinking behavior later in life, too, and continued for 8 to 9 years. I began my sober journey at about the age that you are now. While my life is far from perfect, these 7+ years of sobriety have given me a ‘contentment with self’ I had never experienced previously and have given me the tools to meet life’s challenges in a healthy way.

Stay the course; there is really good stuff ahead of you.
