The cookie connoisseurs at my church community group agree that the original Australian Tim Tams are superior to American Twix bars.

One guy identified one of the flavors as malted milk. Maybe so—I can’t quite put my finger on it.

But they sure are good!

I tasted a salted caramel/vanilla yesterday and I didn’t like it half as much as the original.

Ha....I put a few of those in Nick's lunch today.....I don't like them either...

No malt in original tim tams love.....

Milk chocolate (38%)(sugar, milk solids, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, emulsifiers (e322: soy, e476), flavouring), wheat flour, sugar, vegetable oil, golden syrup, colours (e102, e110, e129, e133, e150), milk solids, cocoa, salt, raising agent(e500), emulsifier (e322: soy) and flavouring.

The milk and butter in Aus and NZ is very different to the milk and butter here and so is the cocoa. I imagine that might be some of what you taste.

And golden syrup is to die for! We don’t use that in the US—I only found it once in the “international” aisle of the gourmet supermarket. Other times I’ve looked they haven’t had it.

Nick told me the same thing....I got us Uncle Toby's Quick Oats sachets (the Aussies will know) and one of the varieties is Golden Syrup. Nick loves it.

And yes Mags darling ~ I can make proper porridge....I have a box, just need to be remember on the weekend. I have also been introducing Nick to crumpets and sausages/beans/eggs on Sunday night and all sorts of combinations of British?Aussie food. Lots of fun.

Suze, once you said that you liked one Aussie snack even better than Tim Tams. It was a one-syllable word that started with a “V” or “N,” I think.

Hmmm, I don't actually like TimTams.....yes I know, how un-Australian of me.
Thinking.....I don't know.....my favourite chocolate biscuits (aus) are Gaietys. They are chocolate wafer cookies and World Market here actually has them. Also mint slices.

I found the item I was thinking of on the Arnott’s website: Iced VoVos.. Two syllables. I’m not sure I’d like them—I’m not big on fondant (though I love raspberry and coconut).

I haven't had them in years but iced vovos used to be just icing, jam and coconut - no marshmallow?
