Kayak - if I had a drumstick in my house right now I would definitely eat it for breakfast! Lol And you're right - with the sun comes a new day....and the sun is just rising here
Well off to work - I hope you all have a great day!!

Umm, hi all.
I was doing OK up until Fourth of July, downhill since.
Banged up the car, twice evidently. No memory of it. Don't know what to do about that. What a mess.
I'm at the end of this. I haven't been much help to anyone here on SR, but I haven't got my own crap together obviously.
Maybe just throw myself in rehab.
Anyway, I'm back. I need you guys more than ever.
Stay sober everyone. I'll do the same.

Thanks, Kayak.
I can't do this withdrawal thing even one more time. It's such a horrible feeling and it lasts for days.
A copy of Under the Influence arrived yesterday so I'll start that. Better late than never.
I have to visit family again but I'll try to stay close here. Hopefully be of some help to all of you as well.
God do I feel like an idiot!! Day one.
How do you tell on yourself, by the way? I seem to have zero capacity for that. I just slink off and drink.

Good morning all. I had a better sleep than the last two nights. The sleeping pill I was prescribed is mild indeed, but just enough to help even if it still took a couple of hours to fall asleep. Better than tossing and turning for 5-6 hours!!
Day 6, and glad to wake up sober. Thankful I was able to work through that craving last night. Knew I wouldn't regret not drinking

Good morning everyone. Day 8. It's quiet around here this morning. I'm trying to stay away from the News indefinitely. It's so sad. There are so many horrible things going on in the world. :-(
Welcome back Pelagic! I'm so glad to hear from you!
Meditation for today:
A Quiet Moment to Reflect
“As with expeditions into the wilds when we have endured storms and rapids, cold and sleet, and sometimes lack of food, it is ultimately the good things we remember, not the bad.”
—Sigurd F. Olson
In our daily lives we often take a very short perspective. We see what is worrisome today, what is pressing hardest, or what is most frightening or confusing. Eventually, we may look back and have a totally different idea about what was truly important on this day.
Let us take a moment now to remember what does endure, what we value most, what counts in the long run. For a brief quiet time we can let go of all the anxieties of this moment. During these few quiet moments, we will identify our tensions and then place them totally into the hands of our Higher Power. This is our time to let go of our worries and be refreshed. It will provide a background of serenity for our day.
Today, help me remember this corner of serenity as I meet the tasks and activities on my path.

The Dash
by Linda Ellis copyright 1996
I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on the tombstone
from the beginning…to the end.
He noted that first came the date of birth
and spoke the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time
that they spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved them
know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own,
the cars…the house…the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.
So, think about this long and hard.
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left
that can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
to consider what’s true and real
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger
and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
like we’ve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect
and more often wear a smile,
remembering that this special dash
might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy is being read,
with your life’s actions to rehash…
would you be proud of the things they say
about how you spent YOUR dash?
Not sure what this has to do with anything, but a friend of mine posted it up on FB - just thought I would share. I don't really know what to make of Brene Brown - she says kind of cool things that make me feel good - I guess I'll just leave it at that ''I think midlife is when the universe gently places her hands upon your shoulders, pulls you close, and whispers in your ear: I’m not screwing around. It’s time. All of this pretending and performing – these coping mechanisms that you’ve developed to protect yourself from feeling inadequate and getting hurt – has to go. Your armor is preventing you from growing into your gifts. I understand that you needed these protections when you were small. I understand that you believed your armor could help you secure all of the things you needed to feel worthy of love and belonging, but you’re still searching and you’re more lost than ever. Time is growing short. There are unexplored adventures ahead of you. You can’t live the rest of your life worried about what other people think. You were born worthy of love and belonging. Courage and daring are coursing through you. You were made to live and love with your whole heart. It’s time to show up and be seen.'' ~ Brené Brown
