Soberpotamus's Oral Surgery Recovery Support & Journal Part 4
SP I know you probably already know this but sunscreen/sunblock really keeps our skin safe and if you have sunburn try getting a aftersun aloe vera lotion that really helped me when I lived in Greece

Sorry you are having a hard time of it SP - the only people that ever pretend to like the general public are the politicians wanting their votes but everyone knows the general public are to be avoided as much as possible.
At least it is not all that long until July

That does help put things into perspective, Sao. Thanks.
The hellish nature of the job is beginning to shift and subside a bit. I don't enjoy it by any stretch, but it's become much more bearable. I'm about 1.5 weeks in at this point.
It's been somewhat pleasant to make some elderly ladies laugh and spend extra time with them perusing the flowers and plants, helping them with their selections. I've spotted a few eccentric characters and made a beeline for them. They usually turn into a good conversation. I've recently chatted with a male librarian who mistook me for an English teacher (I think it was a ploy to get my attention) and had a lovely chat about pursuing my masters in the near future. He gave me hope that it might not be a waste of time and money (still not sold on it, though).
To my amazement and slight horror, I'm becoming quite popular in the garden center. Customers seem to think I'm a plant expert, and my co-workers seem to like me. So, I guess this is all a good thing. One grad student from Colorado who's working in the garden center until June or July discovered that she'd finally found an Alabama native who's liberal and open-minded, lol. She can't wait to leave this part of the country to go back to her state. I told her to imagine living here her entire life, and she laughed and felt pity for me. We soon discovered we both majored in the same field, and have both had jaw surgery. It's sad she'll be leaving this summer. But then again, maybe I'll be gone by then, too!
I'm surrounded by high school and university students there. It's funny. They all seem like 'kids' to me now, and they think I'm ten years younger than my actual age, so I keep it to myself unless they ask. Next to them, I feel old and wise, lol. Not in a pretentious way. I enjoy working with them, mostly. The high school girl is bossy, but it's so ridiculous I just inwardly laugh. She's got a cute personality.
My sunburn has turned golden-brown, and I'm wearing 3/4 length sleeves throughout the hottest part of the day, and changing into short sleeves around 4 p.m. Seems to be working well. And wearing SPF tinted moisturizer on my face, and a hat and sunglasses.
Oddly, I'm off for the next five days, so I'll be scrambling to get as much done as I can -- some landscaping/gardening projects, installing both bathroom faucets, assembling some shoe racks, picking out some material for the kitchen backsplash, and maybe one more module in my proofreading course.

One angelic, curly-haired child of about four gushed to me about the carrots and snapdragon flowers he'd set out for the Easter Bunny. That was precious.
I told him the Easter Bunny will just love them.

Rhiannon was a most beautiful girl!
I'm glad you're having some fun with the customers and also with your co-workers. I'm not sure how you managed to learn so much about plants and flowers but it's definitely helping you with this job.

I think I have my husband on board with the idea to remove our shoes and wear soft flip-flops, sandals, or slippers once we get the new floor installed. He seems ok with it anyway.
I used the momentum from this positive conversation to ease him into the idea of me helping him get rid of his clutter. I suggested he go through the boxes and piles, and pull out his photos, letters, and any other mementos he has saved, and to put them into separate boxes to be packed up. Then, I will do the dirty job of getting rid of all the rest since he can't bear to do it himself.
(Trust me, I will toss this crap out in a heartbeat!!)
He sighed, and looked at me hard, and didn't say anything. This is the first time I've made a suggestion about the clutter piles that he didn't fight back instantly. This is progress.

Glad that infection was ruled out Soberpotamus and that your bottom lip is getting feeling back.
It's been a long road but your descriptions indicate that you are slowly getting there thank goodness.
When I look back on my working life I sometimes think that working in a garden centre would have been a good way to go. Plants, water, growth, scents, it's got a lot going for it imo.
Women's AA sounds a good idea three years sober and non-12 Stepper or not. As Venus said, like all meetings you need to find one that suits and it would be good to socialise with other women. We have lots in common, it is not just alcohol that defines us. The only requirement.......etc.
I've never heard a baby hippo before, that was beautiful.
Wishing you further and greater recovery. Hopefully this far down the track it will start to improve more rapidly. Here's hoping.
