Abstaining from a fit

How do I deal
With the way I feel?
You were supposed to be here
But you've disappeared
And left me needing to heal

It's not enough
That I'm tough
It takes more
Than I've got in my stores
To deal with this stuff

I know it's for the best
That you left like the rest
I was a hopeless drunk
My life was sunk
No wonder you left that mess

But the part that makes me confused
Is why you acted like I was your muse
Only to turn and be rash
Leaving me on the side of the road like trash
Now I'm left feeling used

Why did you call
To ask for a visit at all
Only to then send
A text saying it's the end
I wish I'd never met you at all

I used to like to be alone
Now I wish I had someone to call on the phone
But instead I'll waste my night
Sitting here to write
Poetry to **** & moan

About how life sucks
I don't make enough bucks
I drive an old car
And wasted the last 9 years at the bar
I think I have bad luck

Or maybe I've made bad choices
Listened to the wrong voices
Perhaps I could change
Habits rearrange
Make reasons to rejoice

It would be best
To remind myself it woulda been a mess
Wondering forever
Is still better
In order to regret less

DG you have stated to heal,
I can see a firm hand at the wheel
When sober, we see
From what, drunk we'd flee
But now you will need nerves of steel

In the early days here the pain
Of feelin these feelings again
Makes us want to buckle under
Cast sobriety assunder
But I know that you can take the strain

You can 'talk night and day on 'the chat'
There are plenty of folk doing that
You can shout scream and whine,
Do anything but binge
In fact, they quite welcome a brat!

There are tools here to aid your recovery,
Look around SR make that discovery
There are plenty of threads
From old guys to new weds
And you really didn't think for one moment I could think of another word to rhyme did you?

In short dear DG you have friends
And ways to help you here no end,
Turn you back on than lass/lad
Who is treating you back
You don't need them, now that message send!!!

I guess feeling bad for a few
Is part of playing the game
But knowing you've felt the same
I guess I can make it through too

in their footsteps I follow

They can warn us of pitfalls and trips,
the shingle on which they made slips,
by shining their light
Our path will glow bright
and we will find our way out of the dips

Another night to be had
I just need to brag
Since 12 days is more
Than I've ever had before
They say bragging is wrong, but I say it ain't all bad!

I'll take a little time
To be proud of this progress of mine
Just for a few
Because I know tomorrow will bringe new challenges too
But tonight, I can say I'm doing just fine

At least compared
To yesterday- so scared
So if there was no rainbow
And nothing too high, there was nothing too low
And now I can say I dared

Made it through weekend #2
Felt different than I normally do
But I didn't drink
So now I think
'Tomorrow will be the end of week 2!'

Too windy out
To walk about
