30 year old weekend binge drinker of 8 years here. I'm so done. Quitting after learning the toxic effects heavy alcohol consumption has on the brain. Not worth it.

Welcome RecoRenee, JimUK and Belligerent!

I am on day 4 and still really struggling with the 4PM-7PM hours....I find posting/reading here really helps me stay the course.

I would like to join the class I have 37 days sober today, but I need all the support I can get. I called three people from AA and not one called me back.

I survived another day sober.... This weekend was not easy. As usual, for most of my friends Labor-Day weekend is just another drunk weekend, with an extra drinking day.

It difficult not to think about alcohol. It's everywhere. I've been trying to stay away from bars, clubs and restaurants during happy hour, but it's not enough. I thought it would be safe to watch one of my favorite geeky shows: The Big Ban Theory, but a couple of the characters love to drink, and one of them cannot talk to girls when sober. So for the next couple of weeks it's gonna be books, gym and coffee shops.

I hope everyone had a sober weekend

Panacea thats great your using SR to get threw those tough hours! the chat room is a good distraction as well.

RGO I also have trouble not thinking about drinking but a lot of people here on SR have said that it gets easier with time.

Overall had a pretty nice relaxing day, watched some tv and sipped on some soda instead of beer. Its so nice to be back on the sober side. When Im back drinking I always forget just how awesome sobriety feels.. This class sure is growing fast

Jake like Dee said, you have your whole life ahead of you and I think thats awesome youve discovered to deal with your problem at 16 instead of it getting worse, I was still in denial at that age and its taken me 9 yrs since then to finally deal with it

I dont know if I am qualified to join the group yet. I am trying to taper ( so far so good I guess down to 3 a day) Just found this site & I am grateful That I am not alone. I have been crying tears of relief all afternoon because I have found folks who understand. I am scared. I know I have to get sober, but dont know HOW to be sober. I dont know how to handle life without alcohol.. It has been my crutch for so long.

Welcome Michelle

I don't think anyone really knows what to do in the beginning...but there's a ton of support here...the first thing to focus on is to get a few sober days down I think

trust me - life without that monkey on your back is worth the effort

Starting again tonight. Made it through yesterday, but slipped up today. Still, there's tomorrow; getting too down on myself will just lead to wanting to drink some more.

Hello all, I started posting on here this evening and I've got two days now. I want it to stick, I know it's been bad for me for a while but I've been unable to stop.

I'm in. I failed at moderation. It just doesn't work for me. 1 is 2, 3 is 3, 3 is 4 of strong craft beers. I'm going to look for motivation and inspiration here today.

failed in August and feel now is the time. I am a 34 year old dad, husband and professional and alcohol is making me miserable. I dink about 10 beers a day every day to deal with my anxiety and depression. I have recently been honest with my therapist regarding my drinking. I just have some many regrets of times ruined, money wasted. I feel positive and ready to get in shape and be a better father and husband. Very hard to sleep last night, horrible dreams and night sweats. Today is day 2.

Ok, this is it. September 4th. I'm finally ready to be sober. I just can't drink anymore. It's killing my soul and my body.
