Your screen name?
Your screen name?
I got to thinking about some of the unique names you have given yourselves, and thought I'd invite you to share the story.
How/why did you choose your screen name?

If something or someone was really cool and different, my dad would say "Now isn't he/she/that just the Cats Pajamas?"
My dad was the smartest, funniest and kindest man I have ever known. And I miss him every day.

I grew up on the Atlantic coast and love being outdoors. I love nature and wildlife. Pelicans were so unique, I wanted to learn more about them.
When I joined SR, I joined as an alcoholic trying to battle my own addiction. I wanted a screen name that was anonymous and gender neutral. Pelican.
Pelican's are gender neutral in appearance. Hard to tell the male from female while they are soaring or floating.
An interesting fact (to me) about the brown pelican, was one of the main causes of death is starvation. The constant diving into water for food, causes a loss of eyesight. The pelican can't feed if it can't see.
As an alcoholic, I did not want to starve because I kept diving into the bottom of a bottle. I wanted to see a brighter future. I chose recovery.
My future is looking much better. Thanks for asking.

Callie is 'OUR' dog that 'I" had to have put to sleep. She ws a 9 yo rott. I was given the option during surgery that she could have her leg amputated (she broke it) and she could suffer a slow death from cancer. I thought for about 20 seconds about that. She was way to active and loved life too much to operate on 3 months on a bad hip (she'd already had probs with that). I love ya Callie. She could actually 'smile' at you. Strangers thought she was snarling, but it was actually a smile from a rott.

its okay, i got it.
it says, christineinitaly. and i remember those places.
those little places that smelled like heaven.
yes, it was wonderful.
i came back to the states, and acted all huffy
"you call this swill coffee? take it back to the dishwater you got it from!"

I can see the details: I see that you are a beautiful lady, matches the personality! I see that you wear two pair of eyeglasses at a time! Do you double stack too? (Put the readers on and set the sunglasses in front?) I have - drives my kids crazy! I also see that you polish your toenails, lol. Thank you for sharing the photo.
Beth - I thought your screen name had to do with your wicked-cool sense of humor!

Mine was a goal I had set for myself. I was feeling like quite a doormat as far as my alcoholic boyfriend was concerned when I first joined the forum. I was hoping to become a FormerDoormat. I'm happy to say that I've accomplished that goal--well, at least for now. I realize that I am subject to relapses....
OT, pelican
YES! I do double stack! Reading glasses were new to me at the time - three years ago - now I can't do w/out them. (I only polish in the summer time....cuz I live in my Birkenstocks til the snow flies)
thanks for the compliment sweetheart
I often get a song stuck in my head and can't get it out. It's quite annoying sometimes. The day I joined SR, I had "Brown-eyed Girl" by Van Morrison playing in my mind.
Sha la la la la la la La la la lateeda.........
Today, I've had Peter Gabriel in there all day. So, if I had joined today, I probably would have been the GrandFacade.

When I joined I was working the first three steps,
trying to grasp the idea of "came to believe in a power greater than myself."
I continue Seeking to develop beyond body and mind and understand the spiritual part.
