Diary of a Mad Cow, Part XVII: "Sober Wars"
1) Congratulations
2)don't fear the burnout
3)You kicked benzos and booze at the same time.
I think you can manage a 7 a.m. start time girl
4)Eat something tonight.
Thanks all for the good wishes. (Trach, Lenina, Dropsie, Bunny, Hawk, TS) Pain has subsided so no need to take any pills except maybe Tylenol if needed.
Sleepie- congrats on the job, I think? Gosh, wish I had some mad skills and I could draw or write you a song to cheer you up.
Cow- who the heck is Wayne Dyer???

Puff, I so very glad you not in pain.
Wayne Dyer is one of those new age guru who make millions by telling everybody else how to think just like them. He die recently, and I got no real upset with him, is just when you has severe anhedonia/depressions and addictions for over 3 decades, and you therapist give you Wayne Dyer CD, is kind of like when somebody say, "You just needs to think positive!"
Do whatever you needs to do to cope and stay sober, Sleepies. I sure is lot of people around SR who has fear, triggers, anxieties, exhaustion, etc. about re-entering workforce.

Drops - being in Belgium I suspect you are seeing a psychotherapist of a psychoanalytic persuasion(?) This is more commonly practiced in Europe whereas dry and plonky CBT has taken hold in America, Australia, New Zealand, and England too, I think. I'm not saying it isn't very useful for certain disorders and personality types. It definitely is. But Cow, I think a psychodynamic psychotherapist would be the best bet for you. It's more intelligent, interesting, grunty and, in my view, a far better therapy for those with a history of trauma. A good psychotherapist will be attuned to the dynamics in the relationship rather than a superficial approach wherein they "challenge dysfunctional thinking" and insist upon "behavioural activation" and the like. It's not a quick fix. What would be good would be if you could establish a good working relationship with an experienced and intelligent therapist and stick with them for as long as it takes, which may be several years. Oh, and a little more unsolicited advice....I would be open to either gender. The main thing is that they are smart and experienced (as well as kind).
Anyway, you may know all this and have been down this road but simply haven't found the right match. You could try ringing the local university and asking for a referral. It's definitely the sort of thing where you need someone 'in the know' to point you toward the right person. I quickly googled psychodynamic therapists in Arizona - they are there (as you probably are aware). Sorry if I've stated the bleedin' obvious.
I think you should start a thread if you want to, Sleeps :-)
Yes, Hawk :-) Sober days building up. Having my mother and brother over tomorrow night and I'm determined not to drink.
So glad the pain has subsided, Puffy :-)
Remember Sigourney in the cargo machine thing? "Get away from her you BIATCH!!!!" Ahhhh.....that was sublime :-)
Wayne Dyer. Maybe your therapist is starting slow, dear Cow. But maybe it's a good sign you cried. Letting the poisons leak out? You have volumes to get out, rage, anger, the betrayal. I always cried a lot in sessions.
Puffy, so happy the pain has passed.
Love from Lenina
