Diary of a Mad Cow, Part XVII: "Sober Wars"
I hope all 1616'ers are doing well. Just noticed 1/6/16 is the date of the Feast of the Epiphany, when the 3 Magi arrived at the scene of the birth of Jesus, bearing gold, frankincense, & myrrh -- notably no caffeine, benzos, or alcohol. It's a time of ushering in a new era.
I saw a phainopepla a moment ago, one of my favorites of the Arizona desert.
The Greek name means "shining robe." They live on mistletoe.

I'll take the gold -- whose got the frankincense and myrrh???
Had a tough day today -- but I find the the date thing somehow inspiring. I think its a feeling of accountability, but why.. I had never thought about 1616 until Cow mentioned it, and now its taking on this whole meaning. Addicts brains are weird is all I will say.
Sleeps -- sorry to hear you are having a hard time -- do you drink Camomile tea?? I know, Cow's thinking, was up with this girl and her tea questions, but I find Camomile really does help me sleep. Which is what I off to...

Forgot to say, three kings day is a big thing here, and especially in Spain.
We had kids come over all day singing, but I had not put two and two together.
Kind of fun to have lots of people all over the world celebrating for your anniversary date.
Yet another reason to do this thing. Once and for all.

Lovely bird courage--I think the living on mistletoe is particularly
emblematic
you gotta remember that California slang is tricky for us Midwesterners. . .
Can you offer a gloss / translation of your last post,
as though speaking to a slow child so I can get it?
One big thing I think different about me than lot of you guys, and I admit it frustrate me sometime, is that when it come to assessing and "keeping it real" about my own self: I think is okay to call a Spade a Spade. It not mean I not holding any Hearts.

It's bad news when any addict doesn't get it: No matter what you do or do not feel or think, committing to an orderly existence that doesn't cause or threaten to cause substantial harm to others is just plain better than being a nasty, miserable, self-pitying, sick drunk* who will end up an ugly burden to anyone who makes the mistake of caring for you.
That's real.
Just doing my job to encourage those on the forums to keep a little cleaner, every day.
