For me, it took more than prayer. It took faith, coupled with a simple program of action.
Lot of active drunks out there relying on prayer alone to keep them sober. My alcoholism blocked me off from the sunlight of the spirit. I had to take the actions to have those things blocking me removed before my prayers could tap into a power that could save me.
It's pretty circular reasoning, but that's the way it works.

"But why don't I learn from it?"

"Above all, he believed he had acquired such a profound knowledge of the inner workings of his mind and its hidden springs that relapse was unthinkable. Nevertheless, he was drunk in a short time. More baffling still, he could give himself no satisfactory explanation for his fall."

Debs, I too used to be very ashamed when seeing my little man (he is three). Now that I am finally on the right track though, it seems he has not missed a beat. Every time he sees me he comes running yelling "DADDY!!!". As things get better the feelings you get from events like that soon overwhelmingly out weigh the past thoughts of guilt and neglect. Keep going, it gets better.

Hi Debs!
Your chance is your understanding that drinking is wrong. There's a sort of people who go on drinking without any remorse. They say, "I like it and I don't care if you like it! And I don't give a **** if my drinking is a problem for you. It is your problem, not mine!"
That is the worst situation, when people fight on one side with their enemy. You know WHAT is you enemy, so you have a chance to win. Just don't give up! Fight!
