Modest Mouse- The good times are killing me

The good times are killing me
Here we go
Got dirt, got air, got water
And I know you can carry on
Shrug off short-sighted false excitement
And oh, what can I say?
Have one, have twenty more "one more"s
And oh, it does not relent
The good times are killing me
Kick butt buzz-cut ********* who didn't like what I said
The good times are killing me
Jaws clenched tight we talked all night
Oh, but what the hell did we say?
The good times are killing me
The good times are killing me
The good times are killing me
Fed up with all that LSD
Need more sleep than coke or methamphetamines
Late nights with warm, warm whiskey
I guess the good times they were all just killing me
Got dirt, got air, got water
And I know you can carry on
The good times are killing me
Enough hair of the dog to make myself an entire rug
The good times are killing me
Have one, have twenty more "one more"s
And oh, it does not relent
The good times are killing me
****-kicker city slickers who all wanted me dead
The good times are killing me
Get sucked in and stuck in late nights
With more folks I don't know
The good times are killing me
The good times are killing me
The good times are killing me
The good times are killing me
The good times are killing me
The good times are killing me
The good times are killing me
The good times are killing me
The good times are killing me

Interpol- Rest my chemistry

I haven't slept for two days
I've bathed in nothing but sweat
And I've made hallways
Scenes for things to regret
My friends they come
And the lines they go by
Tonight I'm gonna rest my chemistry
Tonight I'm gonna rest my chemistry

I live my life filled with no pain
Just some rage and three kinds of yes
And I've made stairways
Such scenes for things that I regret
Oh, those days in the sun
They bring a tear to my eye
Tonight I'm gonna rest my chemistry
Tonight I'm gonna rest my chemistry

But you're so young
You're so young
You look in my eyes
You're so young, so sweet, so surprised

I see a sign, it says okay
Gotta take a ride, just recline in the faraway
Got to take some time to realize
That my friends they come
And the lines they go by
Tonight I'm gonna rest my chemistry
Tonight I'm gonna rest my chemistry

But you're so young
You're so young
You look in my eyes
You're so young, so sweet, so surprised
You look so young
Like a daisy in my lazy eyes

So tonight I'm gonna rest my chemistry
Tonight I'm gonna rest my chemistry
Tonight I'm gonna rest my chemistry
Tonight I'm gonna rest my chemistry

Julian Plenti ( lead singer of interpol's solo project) -Only if you run

I've had my frustrations about the pains of daily life
I've tasted degradation and found the lace and candle light
But we have the weights, we have the measures of our days and nights
I've had my frustrations, but now, I've found my place

And you will make it
But only if you run

These lonely dedications I've found, they bring me peace and light
When three-fold applications of doubt surround my fate, you might say
We have the weights, we have to wage an assault on what it is
'Cause harmless medications abound, and you're not sick

You will make it
But only if you run

Surprise
Surprise
Surprise
Surprise

You will make it
But only if you run

Welllll . . . I went through the whole thread.

I wanted to post a few titles that nobody else has mentioned. There were many of your entries I mentally gave a nod to, but I didn't want to make any duplicates no matter how much I liked the song.

I've also not posted lyrics. You guys will find those if you're curious.

These are songs about (my) addiction:

Blaze's Blues by Townes Van Zandt (Notes: I think no list like this is complete without a Townes Van Zandt song or two. I picked this one because it sounds like me talking BS when I used to get drunk.)

Fall off the Wagon by 44 Long (Notes: This is what my alcoholism felt like. Here is a You Tube video featuring the song as a tribute to Jim Morrison.)

Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode (Notes: This song, to me, is all about addiction and what it feels like. The intoxicant pretty much became my personal Jesus, and that was hard to let go of.)

These are songs about (my) recovery:

Colorful by The Verve Pipe (Notes: I think it's a love song, but I like the part where he talks about "this loser's living fortunate.")

I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You by Colin Hay (Notes: Again, I think this is probably a love song, but I took other stuff from it. He's talking about the aftermath of a breakup and how he's coping. And that's what recovery is like for me.)

The World I Know by Collective Soul (Notes: This reminds me of recovery because he's talking about looking at the world as though he's not a part of it. Recovery for me has been a bit about learning to view the world again, taking into consideration how I fit into it.)

Amsterdam by Coldplay (Notes: This song makes me cry every time I hear it. It's about both my addiction and my recovery. It's about being at that precipice, the place where I decided I had to quit or die.)

Midnight Rider by The Allman Brothers (Notes: This might seem like it doesn't work, but it's the words "And the road goes on forever" that make it work for me.)

And that's my contribution. I am not sure why I wanted to share so much, but I'm glad I did.

The Death of Me by City and Colour, seriously if you don't even listen to the song just read these lyrics it's awesome

Do I have nothing good left to say?
Do I need whiskey to start fueling my complaints?
People love to drink their troubles away.
Sometimes I feel that I'd be better off that way.

'Cause maybe then I could sleep at night.
I wouldn't lie awake until the morning light.
This is something that I'll never control.
My nerves will be the death of me, I know.
I know, I know.

So here's to living life miserable.
And here's to all the lonely stories that I've told.
Maybe drinking wine will validate my sorrow.
Every man needs a muse and mine could be the bottle.

Maybe then I could sleep at night.
I wouldn't lie awake until the morning light.
This is something that I'll never control.
My nerves will be the death of me, I know.

Finally, I could hope for a better day.
No longer holding on to all the things that cloud my mind.
Maybe then the weight of the world wouldn't seem so heavy.
But then again I'll probably always feel this way.

At least I know I'll never sleep at night. (Sleep at night)
I'll always lie awake until the morning light. (Til the morning light)
This is something that I'll never control.
My nerves will be the death of me.
My nerves will be the death of me.

I enjoy Keith Urban's Love Somebody.......It was a feel good song for me and one I listened to often when I first got sober. I truly love this song as it helped me in the dark days before I got sober and what I think of when I reflect on the angel in my life - my spouse who believed in me when no one else did and took a chance a pretty broken person because he knew inside I was there......I just needed help in getting this monkey off my back.

Sry for the ramble but it is true. I am blessed.

I didn't read through the whole thread so these may be already listed.

"Come Away from It"
by Ani Difranco

come
come away
come away from
come away from it

next to the glass ashtray
in a little plastic baggy
is a bitter rock remedy
really good stuff
but i take offense to the fact
that you're so hell bent
are you trying to tell me this world
just isn't beautiful enough?

do you want to get off?
is this your stop?
do you gotta have a tripledecker super fudge sundae
with a godd---n cherry on top?
i mean, what makes you so lavish
that you can afford
to spend every sober moment feeling angry and bored

why don't you come
come away
come away from it
why?

we used to hold hands down
those unfamiliar streets
you used to take me diving
into the watery blue deep
but now you're trying to find every tiny treasure
every shiny penny of pleasure
satisfy every selfish purpose
before you swim back up to the surface

why don't you come
come away
come away from it

you think that i just don't like it anymore
but i'll tell you what i don't like
i don't like that i had to put the training wheels
back onto your bike
and i don't like the extravagance
or the way you taste when i kiss you
i don't like being left alone
baby, don't you think i miss you?

This one's by the band Against Me. It reminds me so much of me it's kinda creepy.

"Thrash Unreal"

If she wants to dance and drink all night,
well, there's no one that can stop her.
She's going until the house lights come up,
or her stomach spills onto the floor.
This night is going to end
when we're damn well ready for it to be over.
Worked all week long, now,
the music is playing on our time.
Yeah we do what we do to get by,
and then we need a release.

You get mixed up with the wrong guys,
you get messed up on the wrong drugs.
Sometimes the party takes you places that you didn't really plan on going.
When people see the track marks on her arms,
she knows what they're thinking
She keeps on working for that minimum.
As if a high school education gave you any other options.
They don't know nothing about redemption,
They don't know nothing about recovery.
Some people just aren't
the type for marriage and family.

No mother ever dreams that her daughter's going to grow up to be a junkie,
No mother ever dreams that her daughter's going to grow up to sleep alone.

She's out of step with the style,
she don't know where the actions happening.
You know the downtown club scene ain't nothing like it used to be
You'll reach a point where there's not a lie in the world
that you could use to make the boys believe you're still in your twenties.
You know, they just keep getting younger, don't they, baby?
She's not waiting for someone to come over and ask for the privilege.
She can still hear that Rebel Yell just as loud as it was in 1983.
There ain't no Johnny coming home to share a bed with her,
And she doesn't care.

No mother ever dreams that her daughter's going to grow up to be a junkie.
No mother ever dreams that her daughter's going to grow up to sleep alone.

Whiskeytown "Drank Like A River"
Uncle Tupelo "Whiskey Bottle"
Wilco "Passenger Side"
Rivulets "Conversations With a Half Empty Bottle" "Shakes" and "I Told Jesus Christ How Much I Love Her"
Florence and the Machine "Hurricane Drunk" (might add she's been nominated for a Grammy)
The Harm "The Family Name" and "Until the Last One Falls" (probably not going to have much luck hearing these until I get the chance to record something better than a crummy demo )

Jerry Jeff Walker "Well of the Blues" (I may have already said that one)

@ Isaiah ... Love that alt.country... Ryan Adams has had his share of battles with the demon rum, huh?
