Lyrics to Reason With Me :
Hello, you don't know me,
but I stole your laptop
and I took your TV.
I sold your granny's rosary
for 50 p.

And I even pulled a old hijack, said I had a hypodermic in me backpack, but I was only bluffing.

Chorus:
Oh so long I've been a junkie,
I ought to wrap it up and mind my monkeys. I really want to mend my ways, I'm gonna call that number one of these days.

I'm the one who sits in the backroom, I'm the one who doesn't know how to have fun.
I'm the one to smoke amiss all around me, 'cause I don't like no one around me.
'Cause if I love someone, I might lose someone; if I love someone, I might lose someone.

Chorus

I'm gonna reach a hand out to you, say you, would you pull me up, now could you?
I don't want to waste the life God gave me, and I don't think that it's too late to save me.

Reason with me, let's reason together....

great thread! got me to join... i was looking for some music to send to my sister in law whos having a tough time... plenty here.

my own to add would be Driftwood by Travis, it really got to me at the end of my drinking and using, that uselessness and pathetic hollowness of a stoned existence. that it sums up (at least to me) first I'd supress the tears then I'd get angry then I'd get drunk then I'd wish it didn't hurt so bitter sweet.

Everything is open
Nothing is set in stone
Rivers turn to ocean
Oceans tide you home
Home is where the heart is
But your heart had to roam
Drifting over bridges
Never to return
Watching bridges burn

{chorus}
You’re driftwood floating underwater
Breaking into pieces pieces pieces
Just driftwood hollow and of no use
Waterfalls will find you bind you grind you

Nobody is an island
Everyone has to go
Pillars turn to butter
Butterflying low
Low is where your heart is
But your heart has to grow
Drifting under bridges
Never with the flow

And you really didn’t think it would happen
But it really is the end of the line
So I’m sorry that you turned to driftwood
But you’ve been drifting for a long long time

Everywhere there’s trouble
Nowhere’s safe to go
Pushes turn to shovel’s
Shovelling the snow
Frozen you have chosen
The path you wish to go
Drifting now forever
And forever more
Until you reach your shore

(chorus)
You’re driftwood floating underwater
Breaking into pieces pieces pieces
Just driftwood hollow and of no use
Waterfalls will find you bind you grind you

And you really didn’t think it would happen
But it really is the end of the line
So I’m sorry that you turned to driftwood
But you’ve been drifting for a long long time
You’ve been drifting for a long long time
You’ve been drifting for a long long
Drifting for a long long time

Joe Walsh is one of my heroes.

One Day At A Time

Well you know,
I was always the first to arrive at the party, ooh!
And the last to leave the scene of the crime
Well it started with a couple of beers,
And it went i dont know how many years,
Like a runaway train headed for the end of the line.

Well I finally got around to admit that I might have a problem.
But I thought it was just too damn big of a mountain to climb.
Well I got down on my knees and said 'Hey!' (la la la)
'I just cant go on livin' this way!' (la la la)

Guess I have to learn to live my life one day at a time.
Oh ya! One day at a time!
Oh ya! One day at a time!

Oh ya! One day at a time!
Oh ya! One day at a time!

Well I finally got around to admit that I was a problem.
When I used to put the blame on everybody's shoulders but mine.
All the friends I used to run with are gone, (la la la)
Lord, I had'nt planned on livin this long. (la la la)

I have to learn to live my life one day at a time!

It was something it was too blind to see,
I got help from something greater than me..
And I have to learn to live my life one day at a time!

I kept the right ones out
And let the wrong ones in
Had an angel of mercy to see me through all my sins
There were times in my life
When I was goin' insane
Tryin' to walk through
The pain
When I lost my grip
And I hit the floor
Yeah, I thought I could leave but couldn't get out the door
I was so sick and tired
Of a livin' a lie
I was wishin' that I
Would die

It's Amazing
With the blink of an eye you finally see the light
It's Amazing
When the moment arrives that you know you'll be alright
It's Amazing
And I'm sayin' a prayer for the desperate hearts tonight

That one last shot's a Permanent Vacation
And how high can you fly with broken wings?
Life's a journey not a destination
And I just can't tell just what tomorrow brings

You have to learn to crawl
Before you learn to walk
But I just couldn't liten to all that righteous talk
I was out on the street,
Just a tryin' to survive tryin to stay alive
It's Amazing
With the blink of an eye you finally see the light
It's Amazing
When the moment arrives that you know you'll be alright
It's Amazing
And I'm sayin' a prayer for the desperate hearts tonight

i don't wanna feel this pain no more
have you ever felt so high that when you came down
you broke inside
i know she won't take the blame"

Tracy Chapman - Change

If you knew that you would die today,
Saw the face of God and love,
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you knew that love can break your heart
When you're down so low you cannot fall
Would you change?
Would you change?

How bad, how good does it need to get?
How many losses? How much regret?
What chain reaction would cause an effect?
Makes you turn around,
Makes you try to explain,
Makes you forgive and forget,
Makes you change?
Makes you change?

If you knew that you would be alone,
Knowing right, being wrong,
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you knew that you would find a truth
That brings up pain that can't be soothed
Would you change?
Would you change?

How bad, how good does it need to get?
How many losses? How much regret?
What chain reaction would cause an effect?
Makes you turn around,
Makes you try to explain,
Makes you forgive and forget,
Makes you change?
Makes you change?

Are you so upright you can't be bent?
If it comes to blows are you so sure you won't be crawling?
If not for the good, why risk falling?
Why risk falling?

If everything you think you know,
Makes your life unbearable,
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you'd broken every rule and vow,
And hard times come to bring you down,
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you knew that you would die today,
If you saw the face of God and love,
Would you change?
Would you change?
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you saw the face of God and love
If you saw the face of God and love
Would you change?
Would you change?

Local H - Hands On The Bible

Hands on the Bible
Scared like a child
God holds you liable
For what you've done

Homicidal
Stared down your idols
A pretty baby
Never born

You can't believe it
You didn't mean it
But they saw you do it
And they know your name

Rats in the attic
Toys in the cellar
She's an addict
He wants to learn

Hands on the bible
Ego maniacal
As you screw yourself into oblivion
Worn and faded
Stoned and jaded
You'll have to face it
On your own
Smashed on the pavement
Stunned in amazement
Everything you make comes crawling back to you

You can't believe it
You didn't mean it
But they saw you do it
And they know your name

So hands on the bible
Scared like a child
God holds you liable
For what you've done

Homicidal
Stared down your idols
A pretty baby never to be born

You can't pretend that you don't know the reasons
For the REPENT at your side
Hands on the bible

Bad,
The Unforgettable Fire, U2

If you twist and turn away
If you tear yourself in two again
If I could, you know, I would
If I could, I would
Let it go
Surrender
Dislocate

If I could throw this
Lifeless lifeline to the wind
I'd leave this heart of clay
See you walk, walk away
Into the night
Through the rain
Into the half-light
Through the flame

If I could through myself
Set your spirit free
I'd lead your heart away
See you break, break away
Into the light
And to the day

So let it go
And so fade away
So let it go
And so fade away

I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh, no, no, no
I'm not sleeping
Oh, no

If they should ask well maybe they'd
Tell me what I should say
True colors fly in blue and black
Bruised silken sky and burning flag
Colours crash, collide in bloodshot eyes

If I could, you know I would
If I could, I would
Let it go

This desperation
Separation
Condemnation
Revelation
In temptation
Isolation
Desolation
Isolation
Let it go, aha

And so fade away
So let it go, aha
And so fade, fade, fade away
So let it go
And so to fade away

I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
Wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh, no, no, no

I'm glad to have found this thread because I made a playlist on my iPod a while back called "Clean Up Your Act" and I started filling it with some songs about recovery (or that are inspirational to me and encourage me to stick to sobriety rather than drinking). * It is Well With My Soul
* Trinity
* Breathe on Me
* Hallowed (The Lord's Prayer)
* Hold Me Now

It's already been said, but - the entire album "Thirteenth Step" by A Perfect Circle. I can barely pick out a favorite song...perhaps "The Outsider" or "Pet" if I had to choose one.

"Dirt" by Alice in Chains is my second favorite album on this topic, but 13th Step ends on a positive note, and the lead singer doesn't die of his addiction IRL.

I love music & this thread as well as all of you on this journey

A song by one of my favorite guitarists RIP Stevie Ray

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Life by the drop - YouTube

Life By The Drop

Hello there, my old friend,
not so long ago it was 'till the end
We played outside in the pouring rain,
on our way up the road we started over again

You're livin' a dream, wo you on top
My mind is achin', Lord it won't stop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop

Up and down that road in our worn out shoes,
talkin' 'bout good things and signin' the blues
You went your way, I stayed behind
We both knew it was just a matter of time

You're livin' a dream, wo you on top
My mind is achin', Lord it won't stop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop

No wasted time, we're alive today
Churnin' up the past, there's no easier way
Time's been between us, a means to an end
God it's good to be here walkin' together my friend

You're livin' a dream, wo you on top
My mind is achin', Lord it won't stop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop

Two years ago I was knee deep in the Pacific Ocean with this song blasting on my iPhone with tears streaming down my face... I was newly sober & reflecting on the past & contemplating a new future without alcohol .

Addiction, Loss, Love, Regret... & Hope
