Cold turkey

How about John Lennon doing "Cold Turkey"? Oh, just FYI, the Jefferson Airplane song is called White Rabbit, not go ask alice. Music played a large part in my addiction. I'd listen to the Chambers Brothers sing "I'm waiting for my man" later on redone by lou Reed and the Velvet Underground or "Going Uptown to Harlem" Way back then, I'd go to 125th street right smack dab in the middle of Harlem. My connection would meet me in the subway with bundles of heroin. Damn, I've been crazy all my life. One more that reeks of drug use, Heron by the velver Underground, takes one back in time, yes it does. And of course, Spoonful, redone by Cream w/ Erci Clapton.

"Cold Turkey, has got me, On The Run"

Hey every body. I'm glad to see more people interested in songs about addiction/recovery.
I need some help finding a song.
Now I heard this song while I was high and on the verge of becoming sober. I heard it on Night with Alice Cooper but I cant for the life of me find a Alice Cooper song that sounds like it.

The main verse was talking about how the artist was afraid of being sober because he was never sober around his wife.

"will you love me if Im sober" This is a line I remember.

If anyone has any ideas please post them

THANKS!

I have not been able to read this entire thread because it's really long and it's bedtime, but I wanted to put in my two cents.

At this point in my sobriety, I kind of prefer songs that I interpret as speaking to my recovery. A few that spring to mind (including sample lyrics):

Little Wonders - Rob Thomas

Let it go,
Let it roll right off your shoulder
Don't you know
The hardest part is over
Let it in,
Let your clarity define you
In the end
We will only just remember how it feels

Our lives are made
In these small hours
These little wonders,
These twists & turns of fate
Time falls away,
But these small hours,
These small hours still remain

Not quite sure what this song is completely about, but when I was trying to get sober, I was literally counting minutes and hours at first. It took me weeks to just string together 24 hours. I used to listen to this song and cry. It just reminded me of surrendering.

Make it Mine - Jason Mraz

I keep my life on a heavy rotation
Requesting that it's lifting you up, up, up and away
And over to a table at the Gratitude Cafe

And I am finally there
And all the angels they'll be singing
Ah la la la, ah la la la
I la la la la love you

I just love the line about "a table at the Gratitude Cafe".

Wasted - Carrie Underwood

Another glass of whiskey but it still don't kill the pain
So he stumbles to the sink and pours it down the drain
He says, "It's time to be a man and stop living for yesterday
Gotta face it"

'Cause I don't wanna spend my life jaded, waiting
To wake up one day and find
That I've let all these years go by wasted

Oh I don't wanna keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain't spending no more time wasted

...He looked in the mirror and his eyes were clear
For the first time in a while...

Jesus Take the Wheel - Carrie Underwood

And for the first time in a long time
She bowed her head to pray
She said I'm sorry for the way
I've been living my life

I know I've got to change
So from now on tonight

Jesus, take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this on my own

I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I'm on

Oh Jesus, take the wheel
Oh, I'm letting go

Lessons Learned - Carrie Underwood

There's mistakes that I have made,
Some chances I just threw away,
Some roads,
I never should've taken,
Been some signs I didn't see,
Hearts that I hurt needlessly,
Some wounds,
That I wish I could have one more chance to mend,
But it don't make no difference,
The past can't be rewritten,
You get the life you're given,
Oh, some pages turned,
Some bridges burned,
But there were,
Lessons learned.

[Chorus:]
And every tear that had to fall from my eyes,
Everyday I wondered how I'd get through the night,
Every change, life has thrown me,
I'm thankful, for every break in my heart,
I'm grateful, for every scar,
Some pages turned,
Some bridges burned,
But there were lessons learned.

And all the things that break you,
Are all the things that make you strong,
You can't change the past,
Cause it's gone,
And you just gotta move on,
Because it's all,
Lessons learned.

Hope I'm not repeating anyone:

Sober by Tool:

YouTube - Tool - Sober [hq - fullscreen]

I will find a centre in you
I will chew it up and leave
I will work to elevate you
Just enough to bring you down

Going through this thread to see if I posted here before I noticed that there are quite a few first time/one time posters in this thread. As much as I love music it just goes to show that music can help your sobriety but it cant "Be" your sobriety.

That being said here are a couple I like:

RIP Stevie

I remember having this song cranked on my headset and standing in the ocean looking into the sunset/mountains & asking God to help me with this addiction. I had a great feeling of warmth along with the waves at my feet.... man it was nice ;-) "Its been a while" but its getting close for me again \/

Jane's Addiction:
"Jane Says"

Jane says
I'm done with Sergio
He treats me like a ragdoll
She hides
The television
Says I don't owe him nothing,
But if he comes back again
Tell him to wait right here for me
Or just
Try again tomorrow
I'm gonna kick tomorrow
Gonna kick tomorrow

Jane says
Have you seen my wig around?
I feel naked without it
She knows
They all want her to go
But that's O.K. man
She dont like them anyway
Jane says
She's goin away to spain
When she gets my money saved
I'm gonna start tomorrow
I'm gonna kick tomorrow
Gonna kick tomorrow

She gets mad
Starts to cry
She takes a swing but
She cant hit
She don't mean no harm
She just don't know
What else to do about it

Jane goes
To the store at 8:00
She walk up on St. Andrews
She waits
And gets her dinner there
She pulls her dinner
From her pocket
Jane says
I've never been in love
I don't know what it is
Only knows if someone wants her
I want them if they want me
I only know they want me

She gets mad
And she starts to cry
She takes a swing man
She cant hit!
She don't mean no harm
She just dont know
What else to do about it

Jane says
