Weekenders, What I’ve become after booze ~ 03-06 May 2024
I went to a friend's house yesterday to work on his car. Took me about 45 minutes to get the car running. They then asked me if I wanted to go to Bourbon Street with them. I simply replied, "Nope, I don't drink."
Good for you DD!
Peke so glad your party went well! Sounds fun. I'm sure you were the perfect hostess.
Glad for a sober weekend. So glad.
I am going to attempt laundry today or tomorrow over at my sister's. We'll talk later, after she wakes up.
Have a great sober day! Love and peace to all.

I'm content just driving up/down the Coast and taking it all in. There are a few old Ranch Roads that go inland, and they're a blast to drive. Takes me back to the 'old' California, and the Orange Groves I grew up in. As when I'm out in the Trailer [not the case this trip], I sidle up to some Local and ask them 'where does that Highway go to'? ]Talking Heads lyric, there]. That's when I find out about old Rock Quarries, etc., to kick around at. My kinda Introvert/Geek fun while taking PIx. It helps to be a Native Californicator in terms of folks opening up in conversation.
Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts. Life is back to abnormal around here.
An RV Park we stayed at one time was walking distance from this Memorial, which we could hear. It provided an unexpected jolt of hope, along with much inner reflection. Having traveled so much Internationally, that aspect of this story really hit home with me. I can't even...

Ran a 10km race this morning in a big inner city event, almost feels like being a real athlete as big crowds come to watch! It’s very inspiring. The only trouble is my legs don’t feel the same motivation and were full of lactic acid 🤣 I got a fairly decent time even though I could barely walk after!
I keep meaning to “up my game” now I’m 5 1/2 years sober. I’ve plateaued in most areas. But for now, I’ll enjoy these “little” challenges like this morning. They’re something the drinker me would’ve watched enviously but lacked the confidence to do.

Thanks Robbie and DD 🙂 I should’ve used km and miles to be clearer.
It’s probably about my limit for running distance. If I tried to do longer, e.g. a half marathon, I’d forget about pacing myself and run out of steam. Plus training for longer distances obviously means more running training, and I am prone to Achilles problem if I run a lot. A good friend of mine did the great north run (half marathon) up near you, Robbie. Amazingly he only “entered” the night before when someone else pulled out. He hadn’t trained for that distance but finished in 2 hours 15 minutes. Very impressive! These runs are gruelling, and it’s so tempting to stop and walk, but everyone who does that regrets it at the end. There’s an analogy in there somewhere for quitting drinking - crawl through the s*** as the saying (Shawshank Redemption) goes 🙂

I'm glad your evening went well Peke.
Well done Hodd, that's no mean feat.
I didn't realise you lived near (ish) to Bourbon Street D-Dawg, that must be quite a temptation, well done for not going.
I saw my older sis today and went to see some classic cars near a place called Dunmow in the county of Essex - about 45 miles NE of London. It was actually a lot brighter for most of the day than my pic which I took just before we left.

Mesaman, I'm happy to hear your wife's good news. I know it must be a huge relief. Enjoy your holiday.
Sao, very nice photo.
Hodd, well done on the 10K race. I hope your legs feel okay now.
Peke, I'm glad your party turned out well.

I’m really pleased your wife’s diagnosis came back benign too, MesaMan. I started to say this is my earlier post, but felt reluctant because barely know you, and have not kept up with the combining and goings.
I overthink stuff MesaMan.

Not sure if I live near the Bourbon street you refer to. Bourbon Street Bar and Grill is a local bar about two miles from my house. That is what I was referring to that my friends wanted me to go along with them too. I used to go there frequently when I drank but no more, I am sure many towns, cities have there own bourbon street.
