My journey .. from the beginning ..
So I chose to drink and did indeed consume copious amounts of wine from Saturday until last night. I had problems with my son, with an elderly relative, my work, money… which of course were not solved at all by wine. Today i feel down and ill . I am making a thread here that I will update daily. So it’s Day 1 (again).
Welcome to Day 1. As your name says, yes you can do it - and maybe you're ready to. The last time I went back out was pure hell - but it led to me being willing to save my life.
Glad you're here with us.

Hi Icdt,
There's omly so many times you can have a day 1. If you keep on drinking you won't have another day left to have a day 1. Harsh reality Ican, but the truth. If I relapse there's no day 1's for me, It'll be curtains, show over, kerplunk. One drink and I'll have to see through to the end.
Please don't think I'm busting your chops, I'm trying to say it as it is and not one to mince my words.
Good luck and keep posting.

Hi Ican,
. I'm so happy to hear that you are doing a lot better.
When someone's in the kind of pain that you had, well let's say I don't even know how I would deal with it.
I'm glad you're back!

I have had SOOOO many day 1's it's not funny. Good on you for coming back. I didn't, I isolated further even from this anonymous forum. It didn't help me AT all. I am 6+ months now. At first it was hour by hour, then day after day for a LONG time, then week after week. I KNOW I am still very early, but I am in SUCH a better place.
When I was first trying I was of the mentality of "screw it today, I'll start tomorrow or next week, month, first of the year etc). Now my sobriety is something that I don't want to say "screw it" too. Hope this makes sense.

So good to see you, Ican. I am so glad the pain is gone and you're back on track. There's a saying in AA that "we're right where we need to be", or something like that, and I believe it. The acceptance has to be there, and it comes from repeated failures and lessons, unfortunately. And we have to be ready to do whatever it takes. So, yeah I hope you are there.
After my slip-up last month I re-read the part in Alcohol Explained about why we have a tendency to forget how bad it was and think (once again) that we can drink in moderation. It made me realize I have to read my "relapse notes" EVERY SINGLE DAY, as well as coming on here - to remind myself exactly how bad it can get, how many aspects of my life are impacted, and how long it takes to get back, once I have taken that first drink.
