In the end it’s your call - I’m not sure what else to suggest Magnolia.
I hope you’ll be OK.

Well in that case you are doing great with the alcohol.

If you're getting a refill in 2-3 days I'd use them as prescribed, and talk with your doctor about a safe taper if that's what you want to do.

Overusing them, with no no plan, is not going to work.

I'm going to take your advice Steely.

Thank you.

How long did it take you? Was it painful?

It was a very difficult process Magnolia. Physically and mentally. I think I got a bad dose though. Everyone is different. I still have some residual stuff going on, but it's entirely manageable. It's been 40 months. And I'm so glad I made the journey. Holy macaroni!

You have to be committed Magnolia, just as with alcohol. Want it more than anything. Be prepared to go to any lengths, as the say in AA. And I don't go to AA. And in my mind means a safe taper. No alcohol, whatsoever. Support of some kind.

I knew that to continue the way I was going spelled disaster. Didn't want to live that way any longer, wanted to be free, and now I am. Learning how to live again. It's good Magnolia, believe me.

The test is not one of 'endurance'. It's the doing of it safely.

Thanks Steely.

I remember when I first started taking it.

It felt like a miracle. I felt "normal " for the first time since my divorce.

Right now I feel raw and confused, but at least I'm sober.

Yes, I remember the halcyon days too, Magnolia. It's a miracle! And I didn't take them by the fistful either. 'Therapeutic' doses.

And then it turns nasty. The bit they don't tell you about, or even know.

Things are improving though, with PAWS and Protracted withdrawal now being recognised within the medical community. Still a way to go though.

It's a lonely place to be when no one believes what you are saying. The rolling of the eyes.

Feeling raw and confused is 'normal' right now Magnolia. I can only say to you that it does get better, and to emphasise the benefits, and often necessity, of safe taper.

Take care Magnolia.

Today I'm 14 days off alcohol.

It should all be out of my system, right?

I'm still disoriented from coming off the benzos.

On Wednesday I'm going to reinstate and then talk to my doctor about a taper when I see her next month.

This has all been too much for me on every level.

Yes, the alcohol will be out of your system at 14 days Magnolia. Stick with it.

Congraulations on a masterful effort.

I think you've made a very wise decision in reinstating and talking with your doctor about taper. I understand completely the overwhelm involved in stopping cold. Don't put yourself through any agonies you can possibly avoid. It's just not worth it.

Getting rid of the alcohol is hard enough as it is. I'd deal with the benzos separately, in conjunction with your doctor. Slow and steady. 🐢 My experience only.

It's truly magnificent that you've not had a drink in 14 days Magnolia.

Take care.

I was hooked in benzos, lorazepam or ativan. I can tell you that the only way I got off them was a long taper BUT you need to discuss that with your Dr and make a plan with your Dr. You can't just go cold Turkey or you'll be in for a horrible time. Add that to withdrawing from alcohol only compounds things. You need to discuss this with your Dr.

This is no picnic but you need to take this one step at a time.

Congrats on 14 days, Magnolia.

No matter how bad things feel now, they'd be worse if you were drinking, so you are doing well and you've earned some respect for your hard work.

Magnolia, 14 days of sobriety is great. You're doing so well. And, you have a good plan to talk to your doctor about tapering off the benzo.
