Advent Weekenders 04-07 December 2020

If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can be a struggle sometimes. (We’re here all week too!)

Advent.....what is it?

I see Advent Calendars for sale every year on the build up to Christmas but never really understood the meaning of Advent.

Reading more about it, I saw some similarities between Advent and our Sober Path.

The four weekends leading up to Christmas represent hope, faith, joy, and peace, by the lighting of a candle each weekend respectively.

The four representations looked familiar I thought.

Hope..... I hoped one day I could stop this vicious circle of drinking.

Faith.....when eventually stopping drinking finding support from others who said it could be done.

Joy.....finding I could stay sober and not craving alcohol.....who knew, not me that’s for sure.

And Peace.....happy in finding my life free of alcohol and loving it.

Of course it took me more than 4 weekends.

But I started at the beginning. Stopping drinking for a whole day. Then another whole day.

The days became weeks.

The weeks became months.

My initial wobbly baby steps became sure footed steps.

Familiar of the stumbling blocks (I’d fell at most of them before) and prepared for them.

The stumbling blocks became nothing more than a small bump in the road, easily maneuvered over.

It can happen if you want it to. The first wobbly step to start your journey is worth taking.

If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can be a struggle sometimes. (We’re here all week too!)

Thanks Mags. Your a star !

I'm in for another weekend and i could claim shotgun maybe (but i wont as i dont log in as much these days, backseat driver )

Dont know too much about advent but google say preparing for the birth of jesus, that has some application to an alcoholic getting sober and absinence. You live again dont ya ...

It's cold here but blue sky.

Not much else to report, still walking every day !!!

Thanks, Mags ~

That Holiday explanation is a good one, and helps put some form into this Season. We have a Buddha Candle here we just burned a bit of after having that Figurine for a long time, so mebbe I'll keep it up weekly through December. We've walked through several Scottish Stone Circles, and they're impressive testimony to how important the seasonal Solstices were, along with other significant observations.

The Ring Of Brodgar

The new Family Member is seen below. We brought home the 8 Week-old Goldie MesaPup yesterday, and are really thrilled! Dog Mom & Dad have known mellow dispositions, and good smarts. So, it's a good thing I rise early anyway in Sobriety cuz I was up at 3 A.M. today after sleeping on the Floor to keep him company. He's in a Brekkie Food Coma right now, so all is well. Discussions are underway here re: what sort of local-cut Xmas Tree might work this Year, and we already have a Goldie Dog Ornament that goes on top. It might have to be a Minimalist Xmas Tree this Year; a good 'problem' to have to ponder.

I've had my past moment in the Sun here, so I'll leave calling Shotgun to someone else...

Thanks Mags.

Congratulations on your lovely new pup MesaMan. A little bundle of fun.

Well done Devizes and Lixie.

Hasn't stopped raining all day here. Too heavy to even walk the dogs.

Aww, man, that puppy is so little! I hope grandma and grandpa are up for this! I know you are, Mesa, thanks for the picture.

Seasons and new beginnings.

Seems appropriate

wow, 17,817,895 views on YouTube - not bad for a 1965 song

Thank you Mags, as no one else has I will call shotgun and having done so I had better play something. This is something to brighten any day

This is Pastor TL Barrett and the Youth for Christ Choir from half a century ago. It's not a Christmas song but sounds like one to me only much better than most. I post it every year as I find it rather moving I hope you all will.

MesaMan, MesaPup is adorable. He is so lucky to have you; what a great life he has ahead of him.

Have a wonderful day, all.

Congratulations on shotgun Sao

Hi Reid.

Bim, I haven’t heard that song for years.

Sao, It sounds familiar but I don’t know how or why.

I'm in! Thanks for a great OP, Mags, as usual.

I am COMPLETELY in love with MesaPup!!

Fantastic song, Sao! That's lifting my spirits considerably this morning.

I am quite thrilled for the weekend, as I am going to Man Friend's cabin, and we are actually going to stay overnight. We will often go up and back in one day, and that is a grueling day, as it's 5 hours of driving on top of whatever work we do. I don't know why he likes to do that. It's a perfectly nice place to sleep. Wonderful, in fact. We are planning on some brush clearing and maybe some organizing indoors too. Weather will be ok so we plan to mostly work outside. I can't wait. A change of scenery.

MLD, hope you have a nice cabin trip.

When I see the hair from the 60s, all I can think is that I don't see how they could stand it like that. My hair drives me crazy when it reaches a certain length.
