Soar like an Eagle this Weekend - Weekenders 28 - 31 August 2020

I read this passage that DaisyBelle put on SR a few days ago. (Thank you Daisy )

The only bird that dares to peck an eagle is the crow. He sits on his back and bites his neck. The eagle does not respond, nor fight with the crow; it does not spend time or energy on the crow. It just opens its wings and begins to rise higher in the heavens. The higher the flight, the harder it is for the crow to breathe and then the crow falls due to lack of oxygen.

Learn from the eagle and don't fight the crows. Just keep ascending. They might be along for the ride but they'll fall off.

I related it to the niggly voice I used to get, relentlessly at me to have a drink. I realised the more often I ignored it the weaker it became. Just like the crows on the eagle’s backs.

If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can sometimes be a struggle. (We’re here all week too!)

Hi Andy, I’ve not seen a weasel like that before!

Lovely pictures.

Here is my contribution. Nothing to do with flying whatsoever.

Unless, and pigs might fly, for me to take a drink this weekend.

Great opening post Mags, thankyou.
That awful niggly voice has been on my back and in my ear all day today.
I really like the crow on the eagle’s back analogy.
So I’m going to rise up and soar like an eagle and see if I can make that niggly little voice fall off my back as it gets weaker and weaker....

That looks like one of the swimming pigs on that island in the Bahamas?

I thought that hurricane Laura was to remain a cat 1 and didn't realize it had strengthened so much. I feel for those in the affected areas.

Yag, I hope you can find the support you need whether here or elsewhere.

Kaily, hope your osteoarthritis is manageable.

Saou, hope your ankle doesn't stay sore for long.

Willow, Wow, amazing photo. You can soar like an eagle, Jonathan Livingston Seagull will be there watching you soar up.

Praying everyone is safe from Hurricane Laura.

Thanks Mags!
That intro was particularly awesome.
In many times spent in a tree stand, I've witnessed some peculiar happenings, but never saw an eagle getting attacked.
I have seen crows chasing an owl, though, several times. Some of those owls are huge! Apparently the owl, being a predator and scavenger,
eats the baby crows from their nest. The crows then retaliate, in numbers, at times along with bluejays.

I forgot to add- the bald eagle is mainly a scavenger, looking for dead fish and mammals.
Benjamin Franklin made note of this, and wanted the US bird to be the wild turkey, rather than the eagle.
Just some trivia.

It's a little weird, but BF makes sense on this one.

Thanks for the link, lunar. Very interesting BJ saw the turkey as a symbol of bravery and not the eagle. Life may have been so different for the turkey now if he had chosen it a US Bird.

I'm in. Thanks, Mags.
Feeling crazed, as I'm back to work in the office pretty much full-time now. Classes start next week. We are very busy preparing in the midst of all the changes designed to keep people safe. It's a big change for me to have to get up, shower, and actually leave the house on a schedule again... But in some ways I like it, too. It's a mixed bag. I really did like working from home.

That niggly voice doesn't bother me too much now, but I remember the days when it was bothering me every day. I love the eagle and crow analogy.

Marty, it must be quite a change going into work instead working from home. I guess both have the benefits. I’m sure you’ll it’ll feel like you’ve never been away.

Thanks, Mags, for another great thread. Love the message.

Thanks for the great photos, all.

Every now and then, we are treated to an eagle sighting. Always makes me a bit breathless. How I would love to go Sober Soaring through the skies!

Sao, glad your ankle is a bit better.

Kaily, I am sorry to hear about your osteoarthritis diagnose; really hope that the physio provides you with relief.

MLD, hope all goes well with the campus reopening.

Hi Weekenders,

Thank you for the opening Mags - I've never thought of myself as an Eagle but maybe now in recovery I will. After another month's hard work my second pay cheque should be on its way - proof that I can't be completely useless. I'm celebrating with a bowl of fresh raspberries and ice cream, a simple reward but so much nicer than alcohol ever was. All only possible in sobriety.

Looking forward to seeing who joins us this weekend... Thanks all for the photos - keep them coming! Warm wishes to all. Forwards.
