Start of another long day in this marathon with family. Nothing is happening on schedule, infinite number of delays and rescheds. My energy and attitude are beginning to suffer a bit. I need to take some time away from the task--take a walk, get a massage, do some yogic breathing, or something.

Today I MUST work my job, too. I don't know how it will all fit, but I do know that, sober, I will not ditch the priorities.

Happy birthday, STDragon! Have anything planned? First sober birthdays can be tough. I basically "skipped" mine the first year. Last year I went out to dinner with a friend and had two desserts instead of drinking.

Two desserts is always the correct answer.

Control your thinking today. Don't let the devil get a foothold. (Insert whatever you are obsessing about for "devil" here.)

I have about a million nature pictures on my phone. That is my go-to distraction when nothing seems to be going according to plan out in the world. That and focusing on my breathing.

Change your thoughts, change your life.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Cool I'm New

Hi,

This is my first post. I'm sober from everything except alcohol. I'm what is considered a functioning alcoholic, I guess. But define functioning. Everyday I drink something and every night I swear I'm going to stop. It makes me eat too much, not exercise and as of just recently, say stupid stuff.

I know all the things I need to do to stop, but do it anyway. I can only drink one or two and some days I don't want alcohol at all, but mostly I consider it food. I drink a lot of red wine and somehow feel justified in that.

I have PTSD and am agoraphobic, so I hide in a bottle of wine.

I hope I am welcomed and that being here will get me over this hump.

Welcome to SR and welcome to the Weekender thread Dancer1982. There are thousands of people just like you but fortunately there is tons of good advice to be found on SR (and on this particular thread) It is a good idea to draw up a plan of what to do when the alcohol cravings start, something that occupies your thoughts will reduce the time spent wanting to drink.

BixBees sending positive vibes in your direction.

Still at work hopefully not long to go.

I am off to see the Sandman.

Tetra, it has a while since you posted, I hope all is well.

I few minutes ago i momentarily watched a TV channel, there were four adverts, three for booze and one for payday loans and the subsequent programme was sponsored by another drinks company. How depressing.

LoL I love the not so subtle irony of a commercial for payday loans sandwiched between commercials for booze... smh! It raises a chicken/egg type question though, do you need a payday advance because you drink too much or do you drink because you never get paid enough to make bills on time!

Hi everyone. I'm safely back from hospital for the evening. My Dad is doing a bit better.

I'm emotionally pretty wiped out...knackered, yes that. I'm going to read a little on SR then set up for Netflix and popcorn with my mom. Neither of us will last long. I'm already yawning.
