Lunar, how can it be healthy for the little scorpion babies if Hercules won't eat?

Evening everyone, end of another working day

Happy Halloween

Venecia, best wishes to your mom

I was mightily impressed with a vehicle some University students are building in another part of the Industrial Estate where I work. It is to be entered a fuel efficiency competition.

I have been mocked by co worker Dizzee for going on about it who suggests I grow a beard and smoke a pipe (I guess that is her definition of boring old men)

Gilmer, once full grown, large arachnids
can go without eating for quite a long time.

They are ambush predators and rarely move much,
unless they must. Add to this fact, I was power-feeding
Hercules for some time. It (she?) must have been impregnated
with a male's spermataphore prior to purchase.

If gravid, would anyone like a baby Androctonus australis?
Commonly known as the potentially deadly Yellow Fat-Tailed scorpion?
I didn't think so.

Gross, eh Delizadee?
Take that!

I had never seen a pregnant scorpion. I showed her to my family.

Not only are they repulsed by her, they're now repulsed by me, too!

She looks so massive--is it just a million eggs, or do they deliver live young?

I use Vialone Nano rice which is a really starchy one from the Venice region but most people prefer Arborio which is less starchy (be careful not to overcook it. For myself I use two cupped handfuls of rice - cannot tell you the weight but unlike one of your Presidential Candidates I have large hands

Ingredients for one greedy male:-

1 stick celery chopped (peeled if I have guests)
1 small onion - finely chopped
A handful of mushrooms, I prefer chestnut or oyster but most people use shiitake thesedays
Half tablespoon of fruit vinegar or if for guests I use non alcoholic wine 250ml per person. It does not trigger me (as wine it tastes revolting) but you may prefer not to use it
Chopped curly leaf parsley (tarragon is better but I always end up throwing it away as it has no fridge life)
Juice of a lemon
Salt and pepper
Veg Stock for the rice
Parmesan cheese to serve

Tip - stir the rice almost constantly

It only takes half an hour. If I am cooking risotto for other people I would probably not use the mushroom recipe, it is delicious but not very colourful

Thanks, Sao. I love risotto and I love mushrooms. I've made risotto once or twice. I might try the nonalcoholic wine.

My grandmother always made 'Green Owl Feather Punch' on Halloween. It was a big crystal punch bowl filled with 7UP and lime sherbet. The owl feathers were fresh curly-leaf parsley.

Halloween was probably my favorite holiday.

Delizadee, whenever I've peeled it, I take a knife against my thumb and pull the 'strings' off the stalk.

Yes "de stringing" is a better description Delizadee. It is not essential for cooked celery

I will have to remember Green Owl Feather Punch

The witching hour is a most upon in the UK but i'm off to bed

Watch out for low flying broomsticks

Potentially deadly?? I'll take a few.

On second thought better not.

Very fun to see the spooky images and videos. SP, your punch recipe looks like such a 1970s hot item! Sao, though I'm not the most adept cook, I may have to try your risotto. Sounds delish.

Sigh... end of another Halloween. Didn't get very many kids this year, it rained all day and thru the evening. Had one really cute toddler in a fuzzy white chicken suite stop by. She walked up to each one of my props and screamed at it. EEEIIIIKK!!!

She knows how to get the extra chocolate....

Hope everyone had a fun Halloween.
