Hi and welcome to the Weekender Thread!
This is a place where anyone and everyone can come for support - especially over the weekend - but also right through the coming week as well.
All you have to do to join is post - we'd love to see you come aboard :

so...I've been working with these guys on musical projects doing little bits of playing and lots of mixing... and it's been great fun - they have an aversion to click tracks tho (a click track is a little metronome tick to keep drummerless types like us in time)
Most times it's ok but on this latest tune of theirs its been driving me crazy trying to slot into the timing...
I was ready to walk away...or at least re-do the backing tracks myself with a click track (which really isn't my place to do on their song, lol)
so I did a mix today to illustrate the problem to them...
and in doing so, I had ideas to do some harmonica and mandolin overdubs that will tighten up the rhythm and paper over the small timing errors.
Eureka!
It seems to me recovery's a lot like that sometimes.
Sometimes we get stuck in one way or stuck on one thing...I was a smash through, grit my teeth, white knuckle kinda guy...
but repeatedly bashing my head against a wall only got me a sore head.
I've seen a few of my friends here in Newcomers and in other monthly threads struggle this last week.
I've found it's a good exercise to go back to the beginning, look at what you have...and if you're at an impass, maybe think about other ways, other approaches, and other things you could be doing?
Whatever positive healthy ways we can get through our obstacles by not drinking or using is a win IMO...
Have a wonderful weekend guys - and maybe try some lateral thinking

Good post. I've always thought that the more options you have for a solution to any problem or obstacle, the better you are getting at that thing. I like the graph about expectations vs reality, because once I acknowledged and accepted that there are more than one way from A to B, things got easier.
It also comes on the heels of understanding there is a lot more to do in sobriety than there is when drinking. I had simply closed my mind to this fact for a long time.

I'm in for another sober weekend -
drash11....hang in there. Stay close to SR especially on the weekends. Friday's were the toughest for me in the beginning but I made it through. You can too. Making plans and distracting yourself is a good idea. Change things around and don't get Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired. And....eat ice cream!
