Lateral Thinking Weekender Thread 20-23 October 2016
Hi weekenders! And thanks for all the birthday wishes.. glad that day is over
Grumpy today. Keep saying I'm teflon and serenity prayer. And coffee. Coffee.
I'm surrounded by a sea of paperwork chaos right now. I hate it.
Must work on the serenity of orderliness today. To be honest. I just want to run away and hide until things right themselves or the pieces fall where they may. Everything feels like a fight.
The only thing that's coming easy to me these days is staying sober.
Thank you HP for that.

I am in for the weekend!!
Off of work tomorrow and leaving early today....the weekend starts in a few hours!
Although, I may not be present....I will definitely be sober!
I've got something going on with my house wifi and I cannot login to SR when home. Haven't yet figured out the issue yet, perhaps that will be a weekend project.
Be well sober Enders!

Welcome to Weekenders kk1k5x, drash, Oct142016 and FreedomHorse
Insightful opening post Dee, I thought I was good at white knuckling and my last and longest effort at relying on this method was almost exactly 2 years ago. 1st October 2014 as part of the "Stoptober" charity thing we have in UK whereby you quit drinking or smoking usually, for the month of October and get people to sponsor you. Starting Oct 1 I lasted 23 days - i was too ashamed to tell anyone and because some of my sponsors were coworkers I definitely didn't want work to know how bad a state I was in. I took their money under false pretences and to assuage my guilt I matched all their donations with my own money
After a period of drunken despair that was when I started to read up about ways to beat this thing, including SR as a non member for a couple of months.
It definitely requires more than one string to your bow
PS don't do what I did and try to use a charity event to bolster your desire to quit, that is for non alcoholics

Hello!
Hey weekenders,
I am in for this one! Always leave it for Saturday by which time I can't follow the thread anymore!
Great opening post Dee! As you expect I can definitely relate as I ve been mixing til 1am here! Lots and lots of lateral thinking required, aim is to finish by Sunday, 4 nights, 4 songs to go.
Delizadee, happy bday and good luck with the paperwork!
Sao - I never joined any of the charity things but they are everywhere here indeed. My rule was that unless it was February I wouldn't commit, no long months. Oh boy...
Welcome to all new to the weekender!
Here sobriety and normality are starting to mean the same thing to me, less intense and more serene (apart from the bloody mixing! Hehe)

Today I went to the other hospital across town for our "conference" - dreadfully dull and way too long but at least no one told us to "think outside the box".
It was very strange for me because I used to go to this other hospital 3 times a week to get my antebuse and meet my addiction therapist. Today I was there in a work/professional capacity. I felt quite emotional.
I don’t take antebuse now but I do still see my therapist from time to time, but not at this hospital.
So yeah, it was very strange for me and a sharp reminder of how I've changed and my life has changed and how far I've come.
Blessings.

In for the weekend ,
I hope people have a plan for friday night , the cravings might come and visit ,
in my experience best not go shopping or out aimlessly ..
stock up before hand on food and a distraction drink like fizzy water .
You might watch TV or do something in the evening and you might find you mind wandering ... fake watching the movie , sit through it .. come post here offer someone some encouragement .
early sobriety isn't always easy or nice , all you have to do is get through . With time and effort things get better .
Bestwishes, m

Tetra - just wanted to say that I love your posts - your writing gives such a good image/snapshot of your life and it's nice to be invited into someone else's life - and one that's across the water is intriguing too. I'm an American mutt, but supposedly a lot of Irish in there!
Good stuff tetra! That s a very nice post to read, adapting what the Irish say, "good things come for those who.......wait.....(sober!)..."
It s meditation and bed time for me now, another song mixed, three to go, this will be an exciting weekend, wrote the first riff for this album 5 years ago, can't wait to see it ready! May press one in vinyl just so I can hold it!
Bring on Friday, glad everyone is strong and sober.
