Drowning
Kaily, take heart. You are getting to where you need to be. It is very difficult for most of us to quit. You are getting to the point You are sick and tired of being sick and tired. It was very difficult for me to walk through the doors of AA. I had to be desperate. Just try to go to one meeting, sit at the back. You will not have to say or do anything.
I drank for 30 years and could never quit for more than a few days. 101 days sober now. You can quit.

Kaily,
I went back to read some of your posts. You live alone, but mention you have dogs. They sure do provide us with unconditional love and are a good reason to take care of ourselves, as they depend on us.

Kaily- read some of MikeM posts. He recently stopped drinking after quite a struggle. There are many others like him on this board.
Ya think this guy is ever gonna quit?http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...-wrong-me.html
I'd PM some people on here that sound like they had my struggle.

Thank you for all the kind messages. Since Friday evening I have drunk 1 litre of vodka and 8 cans of strong lager, it is now Sunday morning
I have been attending a alcohol support center but find it very poor but have prescribed me Naltrexone but that clearly isn't working, I have also been attending AA but not very regularly.

Yeah, I found if I let myself be carried along by things, the chances are I'd find myself drinking again.
This link is great for helping you work out a plan Kaily.

Ok, can you not drink?
I know how hard that is to consider, but can you do it?
I'm so glad you're posting; it means some part of you is ready to face this.
My fatal downfall has been the opposite of you; I didn't ask for help.

Hi Kaily, good to meet you.
When I first stopped drinking I could kill for a drink but I learnt to mentally go through the stages of drinking in my head to the enth degree of passed out on the sofa, hungover the next morning full of regrets and embarrassment of how I behaved! Even my cat would avoid me! It did help me not drink.
It's a daily, hourly thing to start with.
If you really know in your heart of hearts that it's no good for you, you haven't got a life and your dogs want you in the room not unconscious with booze, then stay close to us. This forum got me and many like me through some bad times.
We can help you, if you want to be helped. Start now, please.

Kaily, you can stop drinking. Just do it today. I had all kinds of stops and relapses. I am up to day 62 now. The last day I drank, I still had beer in the fridge. I had my first sober day and the next dumped the beer out. No more since. I won't bore you with how far I fell at times. Everyone here has been down. But there is hope for anybody that wants to change. Make today day one.
Kaily,
I'm hoping that you are out doing your bits n pieces and when you come back, you'll hang out with the good people here at SR. As you can see, it's a caring community that is ready and willing to help you to get through.
Hand to heart, the first part is the worst and if you're willing to lean on us (and some key people in real life), you will find that you can actually come through to the other side.

I hope you can post here and get support and really give
it your best to stop for today.
I also have dogs, and they love now having a sober Mom.
Sounds like you take very good care of your pups.
Frankly, my pups were my daily "anchor" in early sobriety.
They got lots of extra walks, many tears shed on their fur,
and gave me unconditional love in unlimited amounts.

Thanks again for all the support, I have just started drinking as just feel unable as yet to stop.

I know you are drinking now but put down the drink for a minute and do just one thing. You are alone and have no key people - so you need to get some. It's hard, but you can do it.
Go to google. Type in Alcoholics Anonymous and your city/town and then the word 'meetings'. You will get a daily schedule of when and where near you there are meetings TODAY. It's one hour of your life. That's it. I promise you will meet people even if you don't say one word. That is the fellowship. That is what we are here for.
Please please do this one thing. Just for you to see how close the helping hand truly is. Know that it's there. Just as we are.
