Why does the media still tell people that vodka doesn't stink to high heaven?

I watch a British soap called Emmerdale and like most of the soaps over here, people get into a mood over something, go out and get plastered and henceforth are full blown alcoholics the very next day. Many of them get better and go back to regular drinking. Don't they do any research for Gawd's sake? They regularly sneak glugs of voddie out of the washing machine all day(I actually used to do that) and walk around grinning in people's faces and no-one smells it. Sheesh!! I believed this myth at first, as I grinned at other mothers in the school playground, probably knocking them for six. I can smell vodka on people even if they've only had a couple - I mean it smells like nail varnish for starters as soon as you unscrew the bottle, so why do people still insist that it's odourless??? It's vile and absolutely honks!!!!!

Rant over! xxxxx

I think the closest they ever got to realism was with Sue Ellen in Dallas.

I've always wondered that too. Heard people say "Oh, just drink vodka, it's odorless" Um, yeah until you open the bottle!!!

Perhaps our noses have become too sensitive. If my son cracks open a bottle of beer, I smell weed and he doesn't even touch that stuff. Seriously though, vodka is extremely smelly.

I always thought it smelled like acetone. Completely odorless.

And another thing about TV, I also know that not everyone looks like that in real life.

Kate, I went to a concert a couple weeks ago. I smelled weed in my vehicle for a couple days. I finally sprayed it with air fresh after my wife got in the car and asked what that smell was.
And nobody smoked it in my car. I won't even let people smoke cigarettes in my vehicle.

Lol. Linda Gray was a sport though. She looked absolutely dreadful. She only just stopped herself drinking aftershave in the rehab gift shop - made me feel sick - as if they'd sell anything with alcohol in a rehab gift shop though !!!!

That's strange. Probably on your clothes from naughty people at the concert. I love it when you Americans say vehicle xxxx

Well of course any of us could smell vodka a mile away, lol, that would be like comparing an elephant to smelling water a mile away.

On a more serious note, i've read that it works better to mix it and then eat stuff. Eat exactly what I don't recall but specifics were given. But, it also said anymore than a couple will negate it because then it will be coming out of your pores. So, needless to say at one point in time it wasn't advisable for me to be around open flames or anyone smoking lol.

The drunks here in Alice Springs drink mouth wash to get alcohol and a kid killed himself sniffing Rexona. It's now on display in the supermarkets in a licked cabinet, mouth wash the same.

Nothing of note to add other than it makes me smile to see you posting again, Kate. I've mised your voice.
