Overall much better day...went grocery shopping with dad, played cards with family, and even looking forward to watching a few episodes of House of Cards tonight. Mom is coming back down tomorrow so I should be able to attend AA meeting or a few. How long do they usually run? Each time I've called I've just gotten answering machine listing the time of meetings. Thanks all.

The meetings here last an hour. Many groups just have an answering machine, but you will probably meet folks wiling to give you their phone number at your first meeting.

Sorry to hear about your accident and DUI. I didn't understand your statement that you hope no one was hurt. ? You can get through this. Good thing to contact AA and get their support. This is a great website too, lots of support here. I have had a DUI too. It is a process and you may have jail time but you just take it one day at a time.

I didn't remember if anyone was seriously hurt after accident or not...was just in shock and had slight concussion..then I was arrested. Since then I have gotten police report and no first aid was given and no one was taken by EMS to hospital. Which obviously was a huge relief....

Late night and early morning still terrible...no desire to drink just worried sick about legal issues, money, job, car, etc. Time seems to be going so slow now.

did you find a meeting? that may help you on a few scores.

Not sure what you do with your day either but I think keeping busy helps with worry.
Volunteering was good for me. Looks good on a resume too

Not yet...spoke to lawyer today about case and what I need to do when I discuss claim with insurance company. Also spoke to tow company trying to get some money for car...probably only $500 but still it will help. Gonna try and go to noon AA meeting tomorrow and then I need to meet lawyer at his office to fill out paperwork in afternoon.

Did play cards with my dad, brother, and cousin. Even though it hurt to laugh (my entire right side of head and spine are still sore), they were all telling jokes about each other that I had to. Who knew that you could have fun like this without a drink?

To hewson33,

I understand that getting sober is a scary thing. If you decide to go to AA you can say Pass and you won't have to talk. I found that I had bottled up so many things that being in AA was a huge relief.

I am glad that probably no one was hurt and you sound convinced that drinking and driving is life threatening to you or others. It seems that you are ready for a solution and will have so much support on this site!! Much luck to you, hewson3, and take good care. (((hugs)))

There's a lot of laughing in AA too.
You sound better, that's good.

I'm in somewhat better spirits...I was lucky and no one got seriously hurt. Opened up my eyes that I needed help with my depression and drinking issues. Now if my concussion symptoms would just go away....but I guess they serve a purpose as well....to not let me forget what happened that easily

Welcome hew....I got sober after my DUI. I am active in AA and love it. I learn how to live sober by people who are actually doing it. Like the people on here just in 3D. Glad you are okay...some are not as lucky as we are.

Got a busy day today...actually slept 5 hours...up now at 5:30 but may catch hour more of sleep before getting moving. Headache seems to be gone or at least less severe so that's good.

Sobriety has given me a much quieter mind. It is awesome. You will get that too, you're on the right path.
