You certainly won't be the first person who has been through those doors with a DUI. Trust me, the meetings will be a pleasant part of this experience.

For some reason I'm scared that I might see someone I know there...I live in a smaller town. But I now know I've got to at least try these meetings...perhaps they will help me.

The good news is that if you run into anyone to you know they are there for the same reason you are and you'll have some IRL sober support. You can do this!

And I'm still sickened by thought that someone may have gotten hurt...I wish I knew for a fact no one was hurt...my brother/sister keep trying to reassure by saying I wouldn't had been released so quick by jail if somebody was injured in the wreck..but I still can't sleep thinking about it over and over.

Welcome Hewson. Glad you found SR-it will help you deal with some of the overwhelming feelings and help you stop if you're ready. It sounds like you are ready to make a change. I too hope that no one was hurt, I think you probably would know by now.

You'll see it over and over again here, it's very hard to moderate or cut back. You will probably have a better success rate just stopping altogether. It may be easier than you think-it's a huge relief to not have to feel ashamed, guilty, and like you're a bad person, it's ironically an intoxicating feeling. There's a freedom and sigh of relief in stopping, at least that's how it felt to me.

It's a good idea to do meetings, readings, and really have your actions show you intend to change and will learn from the experience. It will probably have a better outcome for you in court if you sincerely are making a change.

There's no hole so deep we can't get out of it Hewson.
Congratulations on making a decision to stay sober

Take deep breath, if you had hurt someone you would have been charged with at least vehicular assault and like others told you, they would not have released you so fast on such a small bail. I am pretty sure too that the judge would have made sure you knew you hurt someone.
Please do not go celebrate the "good news" but go to an AA meeting instead after you meet your lawyer.
If you believe in a higher power, I strongly suggest you start the day by thanking him/her and by asking for guidance in starting your sober journey so you can meet good people and be open and willing.

I just know my car was totaled, entire passenger side was caved in when I got hit. I walked away with only a few cuts and bruises but can't remember much from crash....feel horrible not knowing.

Hey hewson,

Welcome,
Take a deep breath and be thankful nobody got seriously hurt.
Let this be the beginning of a new you. Big wake up call.
I had one several years ago and was scared straight for a couple years.
I wish I would have never picked up again, but, I made a mistake and ended up going down that path of ruin again.
But, I'm back on track with nearly 7 months of sobriety.
And you can be on that road as well.

Use this site,it works my friend.

I hope I can..always been a sort of loner, thinking I could work out my depression and drinking by myself. This accident has made me realize I need to change and that I need help to make that change.

That is sooo scary. I went through a DUI about 13 years ago and it was a BAD one. I do understand what your going through. Give your attorney a call and then do whatever you have to do to get and stay sober.

That DUI marked the beginning of a downhill slide for me. I really wish I had quit back then instead of doing another decade+ worth of damage to myself and those I love.

You can do it!! I had a dui accident 6 months ago, been sober 5 months. My life is SO MUCH better! At first I thought my life was ruined but little did I know it was the catalyst for awesome change.

you've taken an important first step to better your life forever.

this horrible situation you are in today can be your path to a better life and future. don't waste this opportunity.

it feels like you want to do the right thing, most importantly for yourself. you'll find a lot of support here. and you are already making the right choices.

there's only one way to beat this. is to quit for good. life can be just fine without drinking.

Amen.

One of the most rewarding benefits of sobriety is deciding what to do with all the money you've saved!

Just got police accident report. Under first aid at scene is 'no'...and under injured removed to/EMS run is all left blank. So I assume and hope the other driver was ok. Probably attending 1st AA meeting tomorrow.
