I know it's hard to think...but thank God it is not Stage 4! There is lots of hope! At one point my Dr wanted to take a picture of my liver because my count was so high...it so much depends on when they do the blood tests for the liver...when I was tested again at a later date, everything was much better and has been since!

And don't even think you deserve this! Just continue on with sobriety, good eating, lots of water and exercise!!

the main thing to do is stay sober
a Lady friend of mine years ago in basically your same condition
was told by her doctor
that if she stopped drinking and taking her pills
she probably had some very good years yet ahead of her
if not
she would die in 5 years
almost to the day she died 5 years later
with a mouthful of booze washing down a handful of pills
she was just under 50 years old

the booze and pills had rotted her liver out

save what you have left of yours by
staying totally sober

After a bout in the emergency room two years ago the doctor put in my medical records that I had alcoholic liver failure just because my count was so high--two years later my counts are normal and liver is fine--hang i there--I will say a prayer for you!

Let me tell you about Dr Google... a few months ago, I noticed a freckle on my left palm and one on my right - now according to Dr Google I had skin cancer. My own mind decided it had spread (coz I had one on my right hand)
My Doctor nearly passed out laughing!!!
Dr Google AND RELATED MED SITES- are run by healthcare people who HAVE A SOLE INTEREST in selling drugs to health care people! think!
Thankfully TRAINED Doctors etc - know the difference!!

Please do not give medical advice

Medical and Psychiatric advice includes giving a diagnosis, treatment plan, medication advice and dosage suggestions, over the counter and natural home remedies that should be approved by medical professionals.
I understand that all who shared are well meaning and trying to help - however what you heard, or what your wife's second cousin did, or what happened to you and how you overcame it, may not be suitable for others, and may well keep someone else from seeking the professional assistance they need.

Even something as seemingly innocuous as grapefruit has been known to interact with meds.

We are a peer support group here. We simply cannot give medical advice.

thanks

Snoozy Q, I was in your shoes 3 years ago. while I am here because I still do struggle with sobriety, I do drink much less and have sober stretches. I will not lie that the wine is a strong pull. But I have had a liver scare. I was told I had cirrhosis. It was *wrong.*

Wait out your tests and get a liver specialist. That was who told me I did not have cirrhosis. With a good stretch of sobriety, all the liver enzymes became normal(and even stayed normal after some relapse) and the doctor told me the liver can even improve.

Even though I have struggled with relapses, I do strive to be sober and have sober stretches, and times of moderation. Other things that I needed to do was to lose weight and control diabetes that was found at the same time. Not sure if you have other health issues or weight on you. That was the trifecta for liver disease. All 3 things cause it: excess weight, diabetes, and drinking. I did address successfully the first two and still working on the last.

But, I have not had bad liver tests for 2.5 years.

So, do wait out your other tests, and maybe get a gasrtoenterologist who has a specialty in liver disease. Other doctors are just out of their depth with it. The scales are very specific for grading it, and my first doc was just plain wrong. It was not as bad as she has interpreted.

Cant resist encouraging you to help your liver repair!
My buddy was hospitalized 16 times and the last time told that his liver was so far gone he was not expected to leave the hospital.
26 SOBER years later he is well at 71 years of age.
I have just left him after an AA meeting giving hope and strength to a newcomer......Treat your self well and get well SnoozyQ
you are worth it!

Snoozy, I'm really sorry you are going through this.

I hope you can try to remain in the moment as much as possible, and deal with things as they come along. The most important thing is to stay strong and sober.
