Dang Girl!!!!
You are awesome Chakra!
It's funny to me because I know it's a split-jury in the recovery community about celebrating how much better we look since we got sober. Not over how great it feels but putting so much emphasis on it.
I feel that the face (my face) looking back at me in the mirror in the morning was the most concrete evidence of how badly I was treating myself. When I was drinking I was still going to the gym everyday, even lost a few lbs, but my face......looked like h*ll.
Of course the main reasons that sobriety became less of a choice and more of a final-destination is our physical health, relationships, and careers of course.
But Chakra, your post is such an inspiration. I think that one of the biggest things we lose in our alcoholism is our self-esteem; our dignity. Can anyone else relate to brushing their teeth and putting in their contacts in the morning while purposely not looking in the mirror? What a nightmare.
It's like watching yourself come back to life. Amen.
I think it ROCKS!

Oh goodness, Chakra: once again I'll say how great this post is....
What I just wrote reminded me of my appointment with my hairstylist this past May. You know, when they turn you around to see the final style? and they twirl you around in the chair to see how your hair looks?
I was wearing glasses that day so I had them off while he was cutting my hair, but then he handed them to me when he was finished. He twirled the chair around and I looked at myself.
He did a wonderful job but at that moment, within hours of my final breaking point, I couldn't bare to look at myself.
I am so glad to be out of that nightmare.
Keep us updated Chakra!

Split jury, really?? I didn't go to the gym but have always paid attention to the way I look. Just playing the part of a girl I think. AND I won't apologize for being thrilled with positive physical changes. I'm like a plant who needed water to come back from a withering, sad pile of crap that looked like needed to go in the garbage. I am hydrated and full and in bloom again. Anyone who cares to challenge that can go eff themselves. We all use multiple facets of inspiration from whatever drives us.
Thank you Melinda you are beautiful!

I don't mean to rain on your parade.....that's absolutely not my intent.....but be careful about letting some new-found pride take you right back to where you came from.
I remember finally felling better about myself often leading into thinking, "See, you've been doing soooo well..... you deserve a reward! Just oooooooone drink won't hurt....."
Congrats though. I'm an eye-guy and I looooove watching the eyes of newcomers as they clean their lives up. It's really cool to see.

what an unkind thing to say? where did you read anything about resuming drinking?
if you can't say anything NICE.... (which is the tone of this thread BTW).....

The choice to post about your failed attempts under our celebratory post is odd to me. This is not my first attempt at trying to quit but this time I'm much more educated on the mind games one can play on themselves during the first two weeks or even after 10 years of sobriety thanks to this site. Knowing is half the battle and what each individual does with that knowledge is purely their choice. We all have to start somewhere and keep deciding if we win or if alcohol does.
I know your intent was not meant in disrespect but let us girls celebrate a small victory, will ya? lol
