Went to Stranger Things secret cinema last night. For anyone who doesn't watch Stranger Things, it's a Netflix series set in the 1980s. Secret cinema is a totally immersive experience and I was told to go dressed in 1980s clothes. It's so cold at the moment and I had a long way to travel there on the tube so I bought a warm 1980s jumper dress on eBay. I actually quite liked it. Anyway, when we arrived, it was immediately clear that most people didn't care about the cold - there were loads of people walking around in neon leotards and leg warmers! Everyone looked great and the event was fantastic. I really felt like I'd travelled back in time. Only minor annoyance was an unfortunate encounter I had with a drunk person. There were a lot of very drunk people there and the majority were absolutely fine. However, I was approached by a guy dressed exactly like Adam Ant and he got really close to my face to tell me I looked like a nerd. I smiled and told him I am a nerd. He then got out of character and said, 'this is supposed to be the 1980s. Why are you wearing a dress?' I told him people did wear dresses in the 1980s and actually some people were nerds in the 1980s.... Not everyone wore leotards and face paints every day. He then started getting abusive so I walked away and he followed me, saying he hadn't finished speaking to me yet. Luckily it was really crowded and really drunk people aren't the best at following people so I was able to lose him in the crowd but after that I felt a bit foolish in my jumper dress. Suddenly everyone around me seemed really uninhibited as they danced to 'Born in the USA' wearing outrageous clothes and I felt ..... Well, like an uncomfortable and very warm nerd. And I did notice that most of the really uninhibited people were drinking and did appear to be really drunk and I did remind myself that I'm sober and I've had a bit of a tough week and it's ok for me to just watch .... I don't need to be centre stage .... If my energy isn't there, it isn't there and that's ok..... But if I'm honest, I beat myself up a bit. I realised that even though I love being sober, I wished I could have been as relaxed and uninhibited as the really drunk people. Anyway, I got back into the 1980s vibe and had a great evening and this morning I feel great. And as I gave my children and dog the handmade advent calendars I've spent the last few weeks making, I realised something. I am a nerd. And I'm ok with that. I've done enough dancing on tables. It's good to let other people have a go.

Hope everyone is ok and has a wonderful day. It's December! My favourite month. Here's to another 24 xxxx

Welcome back, Dane! You were missed

Welcome, Otter! This is a great place to be.

VoVo, that’s one of the best descriptions of the AV I’ve read in a long time.

Lots of snow fell yesterday. The good news is I’m not hungover so, snow shoveling won’t be to horrendous. My dog, a rescue from Texas, ain’t liking it so much but, she’ll get used to it.

Sober thoughts and wishes for all!

Kenton - hope the news from your doctor is manageable. And as for the secret cinema, who are those people who think it's Ok to come up to someone like that and basically just have a go? Obviously drunk ones but also obviously totally unpleasant ones. And probably jealous of nerds!

Willow - that was such an interesting post. Before I finally joined SR I had quite a reasonable run at sobriety and I was feeling fairly confident and sure of my resolve until one night I went to the theatre to see Company. It was a great prodoction and an example of really classy, extravagant musical theatre. At some point in the play most of the characters drown their sorrows - and joys - in life and love with a gin or cocktail. I left feeling really glad I'd seen it but it immediately triggered an absolute desire to start drinking again to get there feelgood feeling! I literally bought a bottle of wine on the way home. All resolve gone. And that was it for several months until I did finally sign up here. In my view the AV leaves a permanent visiting card and one that must be ignored at all costs.

Venus - hope you are now feeling better. Thanks for posting the list of those who commit to 24 hours and kindly keeping me on it!

24 more hours please.
