The Power Of Sobriety Thread (POST!) #9
Thanks, Dee -- I think the link at the end of the last thread is wrong, tho -- it took me in a circle.
Just taught my last class of the term. Now finals & commencement. I have a dread of caps and gowns, but I'll deal with it without drinking. I remember the first time I went to a commencement -- with a booster shot -- and since then I've done it a few times without one. Suiting up and showing up. Definitely the right thing.
Hi, Stargazer! What's new?

Hi, Stargazer! What's new?
Looked like this thread was dying on the vine, so glad to see it revived.
Don't have much time to post as I'm trying to get a big book project put to bed by the end of the week. Also, my co-worker will be on vacation for 10 days, so it's just me to do his duties as well as my own.
My eye is pretty much healed completely now. May have to have cataract surgery later this year, but will cross that bridge when I get to it.
Have a great Wednesday, gang!

Thanks Dee!
Glad the eye is better finally FBL. Cataract surgery will be nothing compared to this bubble saga.
School year winding down means lots of extra driving my kids around and trying to keep the house intact and the yard from becoming a jungle with all the rain we have been getting. Actually have a Staycation coming up at the end of the month to catch up on things.
Have a good day all!

FBL, I was just thinking about you & specifically your eye problems -- I remember you wrote that when you were enduring that gas bubble, you felt close to like from your drinking days. I wondered if you wanted to say a little more about that -- was it worry? fear? hopelessness? What helped you cope day-to-day? I've had more anxious, round&round thinking than usual for about the last month. Any little thing I can add to my toolbox will be welcome.
SG, I'm glad you're getting a staycation. Mowing the lawn sounds fun, except it would make me sneeze like crazy! I'd probably swell up into one giant hive. Any other plans?
How are things with you, Aly?

Hi Courage!
So good to see you peeking in still!! Sending good energy for the anxiety. I know that feeling too. I'm doing well, in my own way I guess. Thank you for thinking of me.
Love you!!! ♥♥♥

Hi, Dee!
Welcome, PJ! The more the merrier!
Courage, the biggest problem with my eye surgery was the fact that I had to slow down and basically do nothing for awhile. My sleep was also affected, which really plays havoc with my mind. The sluggishness and disrupted sleep patterns triggered my anxiety and brought my mind back to the last year or so of my drinking. My mind was also playing the dreaded "what if" game. I found myself wondering about what would happen to me if I went blind, how would I cope, etc. I also admit that I entertained some brief suicidal thoughts. Thankfully, I was able to draw on my recovery tools. I talked to my family and friends about it and they were a great comfort. I also went to my private online recovery group as well as SR and those that responded were a great help as well. I've learned that thoughts are only thoughts, and by being vulnerable and sharing makes all the difference. I also used my daily gratitude and daily walks as a way to lighten the load. I realized that although I live alone, I actually have a great support system in place and that as long as I continue to engage, I'm never truly alone.

FBL, I agree with SG about cataract surgery - it was a scary-sounding surgery that was so much easier than I expected.
Welcome, Sassy! Good to SEE you!
Re the cataract surgery: Yes, everyone says it's a breeze compared to the retina surgery. Am not exactly looking forward to it, but am not scared about it either.
