I'm sorry Kenton, for the family drama. If you can sit in meditation today and hand all of these feelings over to your higher power, or guardian angel or even to the moon, I feel it will help you. Don't try to make sense of it in your head- that's your ego trying to trap you into misery. We cannot change others, only our reactions, right? Try to let a little of it go today, for your own sake. I heard the most awesome quote yesterday:

"Let go or be dragged...."

That is my focus for today! I know you can do it too.
xoxo

Hi Wiscsober! I think it is going to snow here too and how funny, I woke up and was reading in bed and it was dark and I thought the same thing- what time of day is it?? I was confused for a split second.
Stay warm and I hope you enjoy your Sunday

Good Sunday morning and looking for another 24. Snow also expected here in the DC area. Not much, but it takes little here to create chaos.

Ready to down some coffee then get today going. Big virtual hugs out to those in need.

Enjoy the wrap-up of the weekend.

nmd, I'm doing taxes too - ugh! Hopefully the last day before I send them off to the accountant, it seems each year the workbook gets longer and his job becomes more just copying the work I've already done.
Kenton - let me know what you think of the book, I hope you find it helpful! I know there were parts I read that really were spot on for me.

Last year after some incidents I was so emotionally wrecked I started doing research (my coping mechanism, I wasn't on SR at the time because I was drinking). I found a great book: Daughter Detox: Recovering from An Unloving Mother and Reclaiming Your Life (I got it on Kindle and had fun bookmarking all the bits that were applicable).
It was a great help - my biggest takeaway was learning how we never get over wanting our parent's love and approval, no matter how old we are, and how we feel unworthy without it, even when we're looking for it from someone who is unable to give it or maybe just communicate it. Her behavior is no reflection on your worth.
Anyway, hope this helps, and congrats on your long term sobiety!
This is such a wonderfully helpful post love.....I can't even imagine the pain of a mum like kent's.....or yours.....I think you are both incredibly brave. s

but...I have a large hand picked chosen family who love me and invite me to stuff, ask my opinion, help me out when I need it and lend an ear...and vice versa

It's not the Waltons, but I'm blessed nonetheless, and I'm sure you're blessed too

And this.....I LOVE this....I am a pickle too.
Big time.

kenton darling ~ you are the most amazing person, friend, daughter, mum, sober recovery companion, so many other things.....oh yes....kind of a sensational writer.....and jeez......you are such a lovely person....I honestly don't know how you put up with all of that rubbish from your mum without getting very very upset.

What she did to you, the way she treats you is not ok. You deserve the best mum in the world who truly appreciates you.....well, as Dee said, you have us. And I feel like your big sister and I totally adore you. You are one of the major heroes in my life.

Bless you honey....I hope something wonderful happens today. ♥♥

“You can be as great as you want to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done.” – Vince Lombardi

6:00am in Alberta, 24 for me and everyone else who needs them please, and thanks...

Today is going to be a darn good day not to drink!

Inspires me to do the same. And Lascraux - I've just ordered that book!! Sounds so good - can't wait to start reading it. I'm so sorry for your pain but so grateful to you for sharing. Makes me know I'm not alone in feeling this way. And congrats on day 15. Thank you so so much. Love this place and the people here so much xxxx
I’m new in this thread so don’t know your backstory, but I don’t thing your post was petty at all.

My monthly thread seems to have petered out (will still check in there), but am going to check in here as well. Planning a busy and sober Sunday!
