Congrats Chaisson!
Suze (Venuscat): I hope you feel better: "This too shall pass!'
Kenton: I'm glad the quotes are helpful. I read one a day; so, I thought I would share. I should thank you for your posts (which are both moving and wise). I learn a lot from your daily reflections.
Sharing this quote today "On How Alcohol is a Pharmalogical Sledgehammer" (from a recovering alcoholic and neuroscientist who just wrote a book on the science of addiction titled Never Enough):
"Alcohol is such a mess. It's a tiny, tiny molecule, and it acts all over the brain in so many different pathways. It affects endorphins, as I said, and dopamine. It affects glutamate and GABA, the two primary excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters. It affects all kinds of ion channels. It's so small that it can act all over the place. And so it's been really hard to study. In fact, we still are just beginning to understand how it is that you feel drunk — what the mechanisms are for feeling drunk — because it acts kind of like a sledgehammer or just in a widespread way to disrupt all kinds of cell functioning."

Hi Quitter,
I love your house & especially your big porch!! We live an old California Craftsman with a Riverrock front porch. Thankfully, our town values the old homes.
There's still a hodgepodge of housing styles & 1960's apartment buildings. But my sweet hubby and I just love the old ones.
When we used to drink we'd be out on the Porch each evening with our neighbors, called ourselves .... " The Porch People" ! Yikes! DRUNK Porch folks with their drunk friends is much more accurate description.
Sigh .....
I'll go ahead and sign in for my next 24 too!

10:58 pm in California and checking in for another 24. I cannot for the life of me remember if I checked in earlier today, so if I did, here is an extra check in.
Great day at work, it was the fifth day of an institute I began with two coworkers about 15 months ago, focused on Improvement Science, we worked collaboratively on a project, and had coaching through the institute. It was such a great professional development, and I took away so much from the process that I can replicate in future work.
I feel so blessed to have a job that I love everything about. I am passionate about what I do, and work with an amazing team.
Hope everyone had a great day.
❤️Delilah

I love the 24 hour cycle of good wishes, sober wisdom, caring, and warmth.
I spent from 9:00 AM to 10:30 PM (with a half hour break for takeout) on a job application. It had 8-9 parts (extensive). If I was drinking, I would not have been able to apply. So, this act of sober living motivates the selection of today's reflection:
"When I face fear, I am given courage; when I support a brother or sister, my capacity to love myself is increased; when I accept pain as part of the growing experience of life, I realize a greater happiness."
Onto 24 more please!
