24 Hour Recovery Connection Part 348
As others have said, I just say " I don't drink alcohol for health reasons". Only twice was I pressed for details and boy did I give them details...the gory details of my last drunk and subsequent seizures / hospitalization 🤢😝 Think in both cases they were sorry they asked and said yeah best you not drink now then lol

Have a restful night, dear Vini! ❤️
Just out of curiosity..
....there seems to be a variety in lengths of sobriety here from just a few days to years. What, if anything, do you say to people when they ask why you don't drink anymore. I have a number of different circles ranging from family members (who drink very little) to friends who are regular, and at times, heavy drinkers. Do you say I am a recovering alcoholic or just that you have decided not to drink anymore. (And what has the response been - I think I am more interested in what they say if you let them know you're in recovery). I feel I am at a point now where I want to say I am in recovery but wondering how this is received. Not that I am concerned just curious.

Over time when I've been out I have simply said I decided to stop drinking for health reasons, which is a statement any of us can say truthfully.
I found very few people asked why I was t drinking, in the beginning I was so obsessed with what everyone else was drinking and assumed they must be thinking the same about me, but they weren't.

Thanks Venus. I am interested to know what the heavy drinking lot will say. That will be an interesting evening. They live some distance away so it would be a sleep over. Normally we all just keep drinking the whole night away so i will have to have a bullet proof strategy in place that night!
Make sure you feel ready to put yourself in that situation. I avoided events where people would be drinking in the beginning. If this is an event that will strictly be a booze bash, you may want to reconsider until you have a little more sober time. Even now I don't go to big drinking events, bit because I am worried I will drink, but because I am worried the really drunk people are going to be annoying.
From the get go I just have been honest, anybody that knew me, well knew I had an alcohol problem. Thing was I isolated big time, in my LUCY kitchen! I drank with my neighbor. I went into Rehab one Monday. My husband told my family. I was gone for 30 days, I got support.
Socially? We hang with folks we've met in sobriety. It's been 12 years total for the family. So, about the only time we're asked for a drink?? On trips & vacations. A club soda, a 7up, that's it. I hope I can be just a living example of how you're never too old to change your life for the better.
