For Members with Less than 2 Weeks Part 8
Hi All,
Coming back to this thread again. End of day 1 for me. I have been going to counseling and dealing with a lot of feelings. I gave into drinking/using and then it made it easier to give in again and again. Until I am back to feeling like crap and not enjoying any of it.
So! Here's to day 1 and a renewed energy with my decision to get sober. Good to be here with y'all.

Hello all. I'm new here. I've decided to stop drinking, again. I've gone about a week, but with the help of Campral. I feel like a million bucks-- very alert, clear headed, and healthy.
My wife is out of town for a few days, and I'm surprised by how much I'm thinking about having a drink tonight, although I think I can handle staying dry. I'll be very disappointed in myself if I partake.
It's great to see all of everyone's posts and feelings about the struggle that I'm experiencing. Good luck to all!

Chef1973 Welcome to SR. There is all kinds of help and support here. Glad you found us.
grrrr welcome back. Good to see you giving it another go.
Hi Jason, Carol.
Day 12 for me and I'm just tired. I have the next 5 days off work so plenty of time to get rested and hopefully be back to "normal". All I have been doing these first days is talking to my sponsor, going to meetings and really looking at step one.
It's worked so far.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I made it last night. Went to the store and had to avoid eye contact with the beer, and I stayed busy by cooking dinner and fixing a couple of things around the house. Seems that avoiding boredom is one of the keys to this sobriety thing. I'm accomplishing a ton of things around not being flopped on the couch buzzed for hours.
Calculated that I've spent $310 on liquor alone in '09 (and just for my own consumption). Plus a bunch more on beer and wine. Gotta keep thinking of positives to avoid the sauce!

Chef....
Yes, keeping busy is a good idea for sure.
About being bored.....
have you considered checking out your local AA?
AA has been an awesome adventure
in living sober for me...

Great advise Carol. I was bored to tears after my first two weeks. I Made a friend at a meeting in late September and we are good friends today. I'll be 7 months sober on the 14th of this month. Thanks for being there for me Carol

Day 14 for me already. Drink or don't drink. I seem to be pretty serious about either one anymore. Starting on my inventory tonight, something I always get stuck on. It will be good to get past it.
Thanks for the support Carol and everyone here. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

keenan ....
Welcome to SR and our Daily Support thread.
I read your post in Anxiety ...so I know what your concerns are.
Yes...liver problems can be caused by drinking alcohol.
As yoour enzymes were only slighly elevated in Jan... please
check back with your doctor to ease your mind.
Yes...when you quit drinking...all 3 of the things you
mentioned above are usual. It's not possible to tell
you exactly what to expect...there are many varibles
to be considered.
Generally...it takes 3 or 4 days to finish getting the
alcohol out of your system. Drinking a lot of water and
juices are recommended. Cutting out caffeine will help
with nervousness/shakes....as will hard candy. Try eating
small light meals Rest if sleeping is impossible.
Here is a link ...from our Alcoholism Forum...
please note that not one of us had the exact
experiences....

By not drinking....you are doing the correct healthy thing.
It's a great gift to our children too.
Congratulations!

Welcome to SR keenan. I had big problems with anxiety and went through the other stuff you mentioned. The first 3 days are the worst, when you get beyond that you will feel much better.
I'm glad you decided to stop now because alcoholism is progressive. It will continue to get worse so there is no better time then now.
Good job Jason. Hope all is well with you.

Hi Dean. Thanks for asking how it's going. I've got to say that this Campral is working well. It's the habit part that's tough to stop thinking about. You know, when 6:00PM rolls in and I'm used to having a drink. I'm trying to replace that with other interesting beverges like seltzer water.
I was at a dinner on Friday with my wife and another couple. I was offered a beer and accepted. I nursed it for a long time. Afterwards, I regretted the 150 calories more than anything. Our host, who usually drinks a good bit, only drank lemonade. My wife and I wonder if he's in the same situation. Regardless, the evening was more fun with a clear head and makes me further realize that the booze that's been such a big part of my life for the last decade isn't necessary. Plus, no hangover!
Congrats on your 14-day stretch! How was your weekend?

Hi Chef, I was prescribed Campral when it first came out. I think I was it increased your chances of staying sober by 40%? Was that right? I can't remember, that was many drunks ago for me. It does help though that much I remember being told to me.
I like what you said about life being more fun with a clear head, there really is no life with drinking, it's all just a waist of life. I'm glad to hear the Campral is working well for you Chef. I'm at day 17 now without even a sip of a beer......I'm not going to lecture you about that bro. Stay sober, best wishes.
