Hey!
You guys mean everything to me right now. I've been so busy at work, I can't get here much and I miss you. I was so upset yesterday that I couldn't keep tabs on the duck tale story.

I loved the story so much! I guess it ended by consensus when the ducks swam off to the meeting.
I have an idea MG! Well, it's not really my idea. It's been done. If there doesn't seem to be one of us around to play with, you could make up a bunch of usernames and have a discussion with yourself on the Alcoholism page! (WHAT? NO, there is not a sarcastic bone in my body!!!)

And Smoke...I saw a gang of nets heading down RT 65..they are heading your way...better DUCK!!!!
And by the way..in my office (medical) today a lady was checking out and she had a big duck on her sweatshirt! And as I drove home a family of ducks was swimming in a creek I cross...what is up with that? THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!!

I never noticed until today that the billiard table store up the street has a huge yellow duck painted in the window. I've never been in there, so I don't get the reference... "bill"iard?

Good to hear from you. I too have had a hectic week at work. I hope your weekend is more restful and we can both refresh ourselves.
You know the duck thing has really helped me as I am learning to deal with alcoholism. Yesterday was my husband's birthday and I planned to take him out to dinner with the kids. I told him this, but when I got home he was not there. The kids were home because I told them to be sure to be home for his birthday. So we waited for about an hour for him to come home. We were all hungry. So I left him a note saying meet us at the resturant. As we were leaving he rode up on his motorcycle. I asked him why he was late and we were leaving for the resturant. He had been drinking and he was nasty and saying how he didn't want to get any **** from me etc. And I said then maybe you should stay home(very calm). And the kids and I went to dinner. As we were driving away I thought Quack, Quack, this is just the alcohol speaking. And I forgot about it. No analysing why he said those things and whether I was at fault. Just quack quack. The kids and I had a fun dinner. Then when we got home I was in a fine mood and we had cake and opened presants and cards and it was fine. Later he came to sit with me as I watched TV and said he was sorry about all the trouble we were having lately. And you know what? I told myself quack quack and didnt even get drawn into the conversation. Usually with this kind of opening I would have launched into a big analysis. No big analysis about our relationship - I didn't ignor him, but just didnt over respond to his words.
Sorry about the long story. It helps me to write it all out. I guess this is detachment. I felt good about it and the ducks and quacking really helped. thanks

My son hasn't quacked again after our last episode. I still have my testing days ahead, but now I know the quack language. I hope it will help. It was funny last night, my son-in-law made a reference to crack in a joke and I found myself instantly saying quack. It was amazing how quickly I used the duck tool even when I didn't have to.

Ok, you have me curious. What's with the "Ducks" ? I am new here and have obviously missed something.
I have been reading some of your (everyones) messages and sometimes sit and cry as I am reading them, not always sad but sometimes happy. I love coming in and hearing what everyone has to say. I will keep coming back!! Thank you everyone!!

Welcome to the recovery forum! Duck has become our new analogy for an addict. I'm afraid I started it. I was having a moment of suspicion about the A in my life, and ALL I said was "Do not be fooled by corrective flippers, if it still quacks like a duck, the metamorphosis is not complete." Then the duck explosion occured. Quacking now refers to "addictolog"... you know, that nonsense they start spouting to get drugs or justify their life.
If you use the search button (top right of page), search the naranon board for the post "waterfoul".... you'll see how it all began. It could take some time reading that board to catch all the duck jokes that have occured since then. The rowdiest we have gotten so far is when we wrote the story of Dino the Demon Duck Daredevil... although he turned out not to be such a Demon, or Daredevil. That post is also on the Naranon board entitled "Duck Tale".
This may not seem to have a lot to do with recovery... but sometimes the hardest thing for an anon to do is to find something to smile at. This gang has me in stitches at least once a day, and I love them for that.
You might also read "step one awards for Naranoners" ... I think it's on the 1st or 2nd page over on Naranon right now. That will clue you in to a lot of the inside jokes.

I have been in Al-Anon (as of April 30)60 days. My "duck" has been in AA for almost 90---boy is he "quacking" alot lately. I have had alot of other things going on lately and the quacking is getting to me. I am in this "funk", and have had an attitude(seems to be only with my duck), and can't seem to get out.Meetings and my sponser haven't helped either.
